Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. If you wish to get more details about how to check a remote control, please visit this site. One among the posts has details about it. Surf the site in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" view. It will make surf easier.

Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the site linked here. SOURCE: Vizio VW32L HDTV10A stopped responding with Vizio

Change the batteries in your remote. If your cat was laying on a button it could have drained them.

Here's tip - you can use your camera on your cell phone to see the IR signal coming out of your remote. Point the remote at your cam and press "On" or any button. You should see a bright flash with every key stroke.

SOURCE: remote stop working

You should verify if the remote has failed. Contact the support for Vizio, or ask your dealer where you can buy original replacement accessories.

Visio Tech Support:

Most of the time, we've seen the remote fail. Sometimes we are able to service the remote. Sometimes, the IR LED and or the crystal fails in the remotes. If it is more than this, it is impossible to have internal service parts for most remotes. It takes service experience to be able to change these parts.

On rare occasions the IR remote sensor and remote processor area in the set can have a failure. It is best to try another remote to verify this before sending the set for service.

The most common causes of failure of a remote controller is dropping, rough handling, getting food and drink inside, or putting the batteries in backwards.

SOURCE: vizio remote control not working

Hi, I had the same problem. My vizio remote for my 42 inch 2 month old vizio also seemed to stop working. Here's what I did: My vizio remote (like most remote's nowadays) was designed for multiple components (tv, dvd, vcr, etc). All you need to do to make the remote work again is set it back to tv. Now, the confusing thing about vizio remotes is that they actually have TWO places where you can switch the remote to the appliance you want to control. One is on top of the remote, the other is on the BOTTOM. Switch it back to TV using the BOTTOM. My remote had stopped working because I had inadvently switched it to another component on the BOTTOM component switch.

M420mv vizio led television ir infrared doesnt work

that can be caused by either the IR sensor board or the main board. The IR sensor board would be suspected first. You can get the IR board or the main board from www.tvrepairworld.com

My tv [vizio vf550m] won't respond to a remote.

Vizio is famous for having main board issues. If you have replaced the IR board the only two other items it could be is a broken wire from the IR to main or the main board has an issue. Nothing else can stop the remote from working provided the remote is working properly.

We replaced the IR sensor on our Vizio but still cannot control the volume via the remote (which has tested good). Any further suggestions?

Since sensor is receiving the signal of other inputs, there is nothing wrong with it. This looks like an incompatibility issue. You may have to retry using the original remote control.

I have a Vizio M470NV and the remote just stopped working

Let's try this first:
Testing remote control:
The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera's Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera's screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. If you do see the flashing on the camera, then the problem is in the TV IR receiver or the main logic board; more troubleshooting with scope will be needed to look at the signals.

Flat Screen 42 inch Vizio does not respond to the remote, called Vizio tech told me to take out batteries and push every button, replace batteries and try. Worked for 3 minutes then stopped again,Replaced...

You can use your phone camera to test the remote. Place the remote to the camera and push to see the IR on the camera. If this works for more than 3 minutes then the IR detector or the processor circuit in the main board is faulty.
This means you need to remove the main panel and use a multimeter to test when the remote is used, trace and see if the fault leads further to the processor.
