Authentication error is usually caused by one of two things; incorrect email password or an unrecognized IP address. I suggest connecting the phone to a secured wifi hotspot (such as your wifi at home if you have it) and attempting to authenticate there. Make sure you're inputting the password correctly as well. try making it "forget" the wifi network, then restart it. then finnaly put the wifi password back in, see what happens.

What is giving you the 8 digit pin is it coming from the wireless router or wireless network provider ?

If I am understanding the problem, then you are trying to connect to a network that is password protected (that is what the lock symbol generally means when shown beside a network that has been discovered by your device). It cannot 'authenticate' you until you key in the correct password. However, if that is the case, when you click/touch that network and then touch Connect, it should automatically pop up a box asking for the password. Key in the password (be sure to get upper/lower case correct on any letters), and then touch Connect. If that does not work, or if I misunderstood, then provide additional info and we can try again. WiFi password is not set by your phone. It's dependent on the device called router that allows you to connect your phone to the internet cloud.If it's on a public network or WiFi hot-spot usually it doesn't have a password, but if it does, you may need to ask a personnel from the establishment where you are currently staying. Same goes if you're connecting to a university or a coffee shop, better ask the password from the personnel available.
Moving forward, the "authentication failed " usually appears when you're not able to provide the correct passkey, or network password

i went into the wifi set up on the optimus s and went to the bottom of the menu that shows what networks are available and clicked on add network. From there I entered the SSID from my router, then put in the password for the router, (password will depend on whether or not you have yours password protected) I hit enter from there and it connected and stayed connected.

Are you putting in the right password they are locked unless you put in the right password.

The AP & DNS means a code which makes your mobile registered.the dns and ap address will be getted from the wifi connection center .
