SOURCE: Brother Sewing Machine model:CS8150 bobbin thread problems

The top of the machine is not threaded correctly. First raise the presserfot then rethread the machine. Bottom looping is usually caused by a lack of top tension. There could allso be a bur on the hook.

SOURCE: Can't wind the bobbin

Hi again,

Well we finally downloaded a service manual that cost a few bucks, then finished getting the machine apart, then found a small rubber O-ring that had obviously gotten hot when spinning after the tangling of the thread on the bobbin stem. You could see where the heat had melted tiny teeth marks in the ring and it was stretched out of shape. It and yours too will need to be replaced.

If you or someone you know is mechanically inclined, you will need to take five screws out of the back including a hard to find one under the foot raising lever (lower the foot), then one form the front that is under the thread cartridge, and you will have to remove the bobbin winding plate cover which is held by one small screw, and then remove a small screw from the support bar.

Good luck!

SOURCE: Brother SE-270D sewing machine bobbin won't wind

the rubber ring on the bobbin winder has probably gone bad which would mean replacing it but you can buy a portable bobbin winder called a sidewinder for around 20.00

Where do I find the switch to the Feed Dog on Brother XL-3500

ARE YOU TRYING TO WIND A BOBBIN? YOUR HAND WHEEL CAN BE PULLED OUTWARDS AND THE DOGS WON'T WORK. THE ADJUSTMENT ON THE TOP WILL CHANGE THE LENGTH OF THE STITCH SO THE LENGTH OF THE FEED DOGS IS CHANGED.

Broken bobbin winder

For $29 at Hancock, Jo Ann's or Wal Mart you can get a thing called a Side Winder that will wind your bobbins without using the winder on your sewing machine. It has the additional advantage that you can wind while sewing. I use it even with machines that will wind bobbins.

I have a Brother XL-2220 sewing machine. Just went to wind a new bobbin and the bobbin will not wind the cotton on. All I get is a whirring sound. Please advise.

most likely the rubber rings are on the way out. i had the same problem. the part number is xc4076020 and you can purchase on ebay for $7.49 us. easy to replace if you are handy with a screw driver.

How do i set the tension on my brother xl-3010 sewing machine . the bottom thread is always in knots but the top stitch is perfect. i do not know which wheel to turn for the bottom tension.

I don't have this machine, but the tension on the bobbin is usually set by the tiny screw on the bobbin case. insert the bobbin into the case so that the thread unrolls counter clockwise. Make sure that there is no lint in the bobbin area.

Feed the thread thru one of the holes (the hole that will be on top) going from the middle of the bobbin thru to top. pull up about 2 inches, push the bobbin over to start winding and before pressing the foot, hold the 2inch piece sticking up. HOLD TIGHT. after the thread is wound about 25 times, stop winding and snip the 2inch piece level with the top of the bobbin. Finish winding.
