I had just sent a text to my husband and soon after it just went dead. It did not power down no lights are turning on when I try to charge it.

You can check if the battery had somehow got out of it's place.
Also it may be a software related issue, as a fix you can first try to plug it using the usb cable to your computer.

Ok this is not a easy fix. The replacement port connectors are easy to get and cheap $4-$10. How ever they require that you are able to take apart the tablet unsolder the old port and then solder in the new one.
There are several places that will do this as a service but it ain't cheap. One place shows $299 for board repairs.

If you search for "dell streak charging port repair service" you may find one closer or cheaper. It is possible that you can find a good board by searching for streak repair parts.
Make sure you know what replacement costs are for the unit. On some of these repairs you can come close to spending what you would for a new unit. So be careful about that.
