How to reduce the earth noise in a Randall rh50t head

Humming noises are normal a sign of a bad earth. It could also be that you have a faulty pickup or volume/tone control.

Does the hum stop when you touch various metalwork, socket cover, strings, bridge for example. If it does almost certainly an earthing problem.

The four speakers are split into two groups left and right. You connect the positive terminal on the upper left speaker to the positive terminal on on the bottom left speaker. Then repeat process connecting negative to negative on the same two left speakers. Then connect one wire from the upper left positive to the positive connector on the jack that is marked 4ohm LEFT on the plate attached to the rear of the speaker cab. The do the same connecting a wire from the negative terminal to the negative terminal on the same left jack. Now repeat the process on the right side in exactly the same way this time connecting to the 4ohm RIGHT jack. The switch that is in-between the two jacks can be set for either channel or for both together for stereo at 8 ohms HOPE THIS HELPS

If it is VERY faint, it is probably either digitizing noise or switching noise someplace in your system. You should keep your audio levels in the system high and reduce the gain at your recorder to improve the signal-to-noise ratio. The noise is also in the higher registers so EQ trimming of the highs MAY help a bit. Make sure all cables are BALANCED lines (TRS or XLR) between the units. Make sure all equipment is powered from the SAME receptacle or power conditioner. You haven't given us enough information regarding your setup and what you are using to record, etc.

Electronic equipment due to the statistics and laws of physics has a certain noise level that we can't reduce. These recorders also are digital and there is digitizing noise as the signal is reconstructed from many samples and "smoothed" back into something representing the original. Read the specs for noise for the unit. The manufacturer PROBABLY doesn't work too hard to make it better than what would be expected via the little microphones either. Most of the hiss or noise is above a certain frequency and if you run it through an EQ you can prune off some of it by reducing high frequency gain.

You may have damaged the variable resistors (the volume controls), you can purchase replacements from a local Electronics store (if UK based try Tandy). Otherwise have you checked the speaker itself for damage? You may have split the speaker which will need to be replaced.

This happens when you have lose earth connection from your main source power supply. Check the earth connections (grounding) which should be available in the mixer, i.e some power cords don;t have earth wire, so change this if you think yours don't have it. Also check the grounding of the other items attached to your mixer, basically grounding is very important to reduce the static shorts. Try changing the power supply source, change to other outlet and check if it is OK.

If the amp originally failed, it MAY have blown out a circuit protector or fuse in the stack. Check the stack resistance with an ohmmeter. It should probably be around 8 ohms.
