Clean the unit entirely, coils, filter, etc. Then retry. You might have a faulty control board since it has not been used in many years. All depends on the location and humidity. That can tear up a thermostat and control board.
The defrost drain is most likely frozen or clogged. I put together some instructions on clearing this for refrigerator/freezers and it applies the same to all freezers with drains. Take a look and let me know if you have questions.
I've had the same problem with my Frigidaire/electrolux frostfree stand up freezer. It's a major downer to go into your freezer to find all of your frozen foods (much of it expensive meat) - defrosted, some or all of it ..ruined. I sometimes wonder how many times it may have stopped working without us knowing, (since we sometimes go days without needing to open it) and just how creepy some of the meat that I am serving my family might be. On top of destroyed groceries, the cows and chickens lives lost in vain - (aka wasted meat - I'm sensitive to that as the vegetarian in the family), it gets extremely hot on the outside when this occurs. It gets so hot, that we're actually worrying about a fire. It's almost like it is periodically overheating and going into an auto-shut down mode.
Needless to say, we are not "digging" our Frigidaire/electrolux frostfree stand up freezer.....
We are considering ditching it and buying some other model - refurbished. This just stinks... is disappointing... we paid a ton.. and now it's headed for a landfill.... (really?) JUST LOUSY!
Would LOVE a solution.... would love to know of others with this problem...
