I replaced the picture "tube"(?) a couple years ago. What can you tell me about how to fix this current issue?
Sounds like a bad power supply board.
Easy to replace, just take the back off the television and poke around.
Here's a replacement board for $20 on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HITACHI-53UWX10B-DP1X-Power-Supply-P-N-JK07122-A-/111235249201?pt=US_TV_Boards_Parts_Components&hash=item19e6233431

i think its the fan that needs to be replaced. or it could be the bulb.
Try to open the bulb assembly unit and take out the bulb and put it back in. If you have an extra bulb, replace it and see if works. This worked for me. The bulb i bought wasnt compatible

My tv had similar problems, except, the screen went black and there was a ticking sound coming from it. I took it to a tv repair man and what it needed was a "high voltage transformer." After that I had no other problems.

it could be an internal corruption problem, but I doubt it. This
problem is usually a serious power failure and generally very
expensive. Sorry to say.
ONE: First, reset the tv by unplugging the power cord and let it
remain unplugged for at least 4 hours. When you plug it back in the
internal codes will come up as factory default settings. It may reset
the power control section, but I doubt it; maybe 10% chance.
TWO: Look for a fuse on the back side of the set. It would be a black
round knob with a fuse inside when you unscrew the cap. The fuse is
usually about 1.5 inches long and 1/4 inch in diameter with metal on
both ends and glass tube in the middle. Replace it with the exact same
rating. It will probably blow again when you put in the new fuse (90%
probably) and you will have to find out what is causing the failure.
THREE: If nothing seems to make any improvements, you will need to
have a trained tech come to your home for a house call. If you can
find someone who has experience with your model or similar chassis from
the same manufacturer you will be better off.
IS THE SET WORTH FIXING: Yes, generally speaking, big projection sets
are built to last 10 to 20 years. If you like the set and it has been a
good product for you it would be worth fixing. The cost of repair will
likely be in excess of $200 plus the house call. But that may not be a
bad investment to keep it running for another few years.
But, in the long run it is a decision you will have to make.
Technically speaking, the cause of power interrupt failures are caused by heavy power drawing circiuts such as the
projection tubes, power supply and high voltage sections. The
projection tubes are very, very expensive to replace, but the others
are not so bad.
Hope this helps you get started on the right solution.
Thanks for sending in your question and let me know if you will need further commentary.

i have the same problem, did you ever get an answer?
SOURCE: TV turns on for 2 second and then it is off
Your TV may have detected an error. Try first to have the TV unplugged overnight just to clear it out then observe it after turning it back on.
