I've got an intermittent problem with my D40. Sometimes when I am shooting in programmed auto mode with the built-in flash down, the flash has fired whilst down. This has caused the plastic in the flash casing to melt a little and causes a burning smell when it happens. It doesn't seem to have affected the operation of the camera or flash, but obviously it's not ideal and I wondered if anyone knows how to fix it.
When the flash is pop up then it's switch turn to on which I think is remain on in off position too .I have done many in past.
Any of you can contact

Turn off the flash manually (top left button on the side of the camera body above the lens) or use the 'No Flash' Program Dial option - one click back from the green AUTO selector on your dial - the one with the lightning bolt inside a circle.

Thanks for the workaround. That's what I have been doing, but I wondered if there's a way to actually fix the problem (or is it one for the camera repair shop?). Has anyone else had this problem?
