How do I replace the broken fan belt on my y2000 Mazda Bravo 2wd petrol ute? I need to know which parts to loosen, and how to loosen them, so I can slip the belt over the pulleys. I can see where the

you need a cerpentine belt tool. check out all the pulleys and you will find that one has a square hole in the bracket holding the roller. that arm is spring loaded to maintain tension on the belt. Its not easy for the first time to do this job. The route the belt goes will be on a sticker diagram somewhere under the hood. sometimes they are on the under side of the hood, while sometimes they are on the car's grill frame. it is usually best to put the belt on all the pulleys except the alternator, then pull the tension pulley arm to facilitate the belt slipping onto the alternator pulley. Do not attempt to put it on the tension pulley last. and be careful the tension pulley tension can give you quite a severe pinch if you get your fingers caught under the belt.

Belt replacement mazda3 2006

i do hope this helps its for the serpentine belt
First, jack up the caricon1.png, use jack stands, yadda yadda etc.

Remove the lower splash shield.

Youll see a skid plate looking thing on the ac compressor, remove that with a 12mm socket.

Now you have to remove the AC compressor. There are four stud/bolt things holding it on. Also 12mm.

Once the bolts are out the AC compressor is basically held up by the belt and the AC lines. Work the AC belt off of the pulley and then secure the ACcompressor out of the way. Dont let it hang by the AC lines.

Go back up to the top of the engine and remove the engine cover, it just pulls right off.

Youll see the serpentine belt and the tensioner pulley (basically the pulley at the front of the motor and right on top).

Note the routing of the belt for reinstallation.

Put a socket on the tensioner pulley (either 12 or 14mm) and push towards the firewall.

Youll see the belt loosen.

Now slip the belt off of the tensioner pulley.

You can release the tension on the pulley slowly now.

Work the serp belt off of the rest of the pullies.

Installation is basically the reverse of removal, but it can be tricky to route the belt on since its new and rigid. It helps to have a friend push on the tensioner while you route the belt. I managed to do it by myself, but I have long arms. It also took me several tries and much swearing!

Now putting the AC belt back on can be tricky due to the fact that it is a stretch belt, and will be very tight.

I slipped the belt on the crank pulley and then pulled the AC compressor up as high as I could. Then I could slip the belt on. Little note here, because the belt was so tight the compressor wouldnt slip back into position. I used my floor jack on the bottom of the compressor and very slowly pushed on it with the jack.

Then line up the AC compressor, resecure the bolts/nuts etc.

Reinstall splash shield.

My 2000 alero makes a screeching sound when i turn on ac does anyone know what it could be?

Most probable cause is the belt slipping on the compressor pulley, either from being too loose or A/C compressor may be starting to lock up. The belt running your A/C compressor nromaly free spins on the pulley/bearing assy. when you engage the A/C the clutch assembly lock in against the pulley which engages the compressor. It is possible the the needed tension from your belt it too loose to spin the compressor when locked engaged or the compressor may be locking up. I would start by checking the belt tension if it has a manual adjustment and is not a serpentine belt with an auto tensioner.

Here the belt routing for 2005 Dodge Sprinter 2005, whch was sold only with the 2.7 engine mounted:

Fig. Accessory Belt Routing-A/C Compressor (1), Power Steering Pump (2), Tensioner (3), Crankshaft Pulley (4), Water Pump (5), Alternator (6), Idler Pulley (7)-All Engines

Here a different view:

Here also the fan belt routing;

Fig. Fan belt routing-Fan pulley (1), Fan belt (2), Crankshaft pulley (3)-3.0L engine shown

PROCEDURE Removal & Installation

2.7L Engine

1. Loosen the tension adjust and remove the A/C compressor drive belt.
2. Attach a 3 / 8 inch drive ratchet to the automatic belt tensioner.
3. Rotate the belt tensioner counterclockwise to release the belt tension.
4. Remove the accessory drive belt, starting with the water pump pulley.

To install:

1. Position the accessory drive belt around every pulley except the water pump pulley.
2. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise, install the accessory drive belt and release the tensioner.
3. Position the A/C Compressor drive belt over the crankshaft pulley and A/C compressor pulley.
4. Tighten the drive belt tensioner.
5. Ensure the belt is seated properly on all of the pulleys.

We just replaced the serpentine belt yesterday, after starting the car realized that the steering wasnt working, checked under the hood and the new serpentine belt is now broken, looks like it snapped

Maybe one of the drive pulleys has become seized. Sometimes the air conditioning compressor can be become seized and this puts a lot of strain on the serpentine belt. Did you take the tension of the tensioner pulley to slip the belt on or did you force it on. If you put it on with brute force the chances are that you did real damage to the belt. Check that all the pulleys turn (by hand). Check out how to take the tension off the tensioner pulley (often it is just a matter of putting a spanner on the pulley's central nut and rotating the mechanism anticlockwise against the spring tension. The belt should slip on without any effort if the tensioner is held back. Once on the tensioner can be released. The tension on the belt should be enough so that it is difficult to twist the belt, between pulleys, beyond about 90 degrees.

I have a 2003 rav4 v4 and I'm replacing the serpentine belt. What do I loosen to remove the old belt and install new?

Look for a tensioner pulley. It's spring loaded to maintain tension on the belt. It's a pulley that does not spin a device like alternator, power steering pump or AC compressor. If you put a wrench on it and push it one way or another you can overcome the spring tension and the belt will just pop off. Check the belt routing diagram under the hood when you reinstall a new belt. It should identify the tensioner pulley, sometimes known as an idler pulley.

Need to know how to put the serpentine belt back on a 2000 taurus

Did you take it off? Did it fall off? There might be a picture of this routing on the car under the hood. Find the tensioner and yank on it while putting the belt on.

How to put on new AC comressor belt

After you have removed both the ac belt over the pullys on the crank all the way to the inside so that the belt will go behind the pulley, then place the ac side on the ac compressor pulley.
know place the belt above the tensioner pully and place belt on crank pulley, then raise the tensioner with a wrench to where you can slide belt under the tensioner pulley and release the tensioner against belt, reinstall other belt as you removed it.

You have to remove the main serpentine belt first. this is done with a 15mm wrench put on the tensioner. then from the bottom you can get to the a/c belt tensioner. install a 3/8 ratchet on it and remove tension from belt. I find the only way to get belt on and off is too slip it off the tensioner then off the backside of crank pulley then slide off of a/c compressor then install new belt onto the crank letting it fall off the backside run belt around compressor tensioner then work around crank pulley
