My Zune Won´t turn on

In september I bought a zune 30gb, and came back to Brazil.

I heard it one time and in the second time that I was used it , it´s don´t turn on... I put to charge the battery in my pc and the zune turn of and never again turn on . Here in Brazil we don´t have support to repair or change it and I don´t know what to do.

Can be a virus? or something like that?

  • solid_green Oct 20, 2008

    same here is it bricked?

  • finishline Oct 22, 2008

yea, i have the original 30GB Zune...
i think it's almost been about a year now.

i was just listening to it before i took a nap...
and i guess i woke up to silence.
looked at my Zune, and now it won't even turn on.
tried pressing all the directions that you guys mentioned... nothing. =/

i'm assuming warranty is beyond due so it seems like my Zune's done for.
hopefully it'll come back alive some time.

  • SkinnyFats Dec 31, 2008

Funny how everyone just recently post this. I have the zune 30g from a year ago and I now have the same problem as you all. I'm going to assume that this is something that was done intentionally by microsoft. Why else would everyone have the same problems, posting approximately the same date!? Looks like its back to the Ipod for me, F**k buying a new zune!

  • Beater12 Dec 31, 2008

Same thing here. 30G brown Zune. Got it for Christmas 2007 here it is freezing up for the first time 1 year and 6 days after I started using it. Too bad really, because I loved this thing and really promoted it. Can't get the reset to work. Probably better of to go back to the $50 Walmart specials. If they don't work after a while, cheap to replace. ITunes sux.

  • tazman121964 Dec 31, 2008

Same Problem here... looks like a software issue, I upgraded to new 3.1 and system crashed hard. This day nobody will fess up if they make a mistake and cause problems. Looks like we all will have to just take it in the ... because nobody will be honest to to do a repair unless.......... we all grab pitchforks and torches and go to there headquarters and ...... Oh well I'm mad but nothing will be done..again. Glad to get that off my chest!!

I was listening to my zune in my car, pluged in with the Aux cable, all the sudden it froze playing a song so I used the reset techniqe (back + down) and almost worked. Now I only get the zune black restart screen. Pleas somebody tell us if ther is a solution or not.

  • worknhardnva Dec 31, 2008

Not sure as to what is going on here but my wife and I both have matching 30 gig zunes and this A.M. we both got the zune screen like it was loading but now it's stuck and the reset won't work either.  I think someone at microsoft put a virus in ver. 3.0 so Happy New year us all of us.

  • billzart Dec 31, 2008

This morning my Zune stoppedworking too. It is stuck on the start up screen (Zune logo, the word "zune" and a white bar across the bottom. The zune was connected and the zune software was open. The "hard reset" does not work. My lock is off and regardless of how long I hold the buttons, they don't reset. My zune's batttery ran down so I plugged it in to charge and it still stopped at the same screen.

Do I have any options before I call Microsoft? I have no warrenty.

I have one of the original (bigger) 30GB Zunes. I have had this for about nine months and it has always worked without a problem. This morning I plugged it into my car aux. speaker jack as I have done for the last six months and the screen was frozen for several seconds. It then went blank and nothing. I tried the back button while pushing the up, nothing. Then I tried the back button with the down button, nothing. When it froze it still had about 25% battery left, but I plugged it into the mains charger anyway, nothing. I then used the lock and unlock, nothing.

Then I left it in lock for about ten minutes. When I unlocked it, it came back on. All my music still stored and it is working perfectly again. My guess would be that this is a software glitch.
Today's loss of productivity was brought to you by Microsoft! ;)

Bals12345678 is actually correct. I was shocked as hell when I first tried it. I just bought a brand new 120GB Zune, only a week old. It froze today and I tried everything. I charged it all day, tried to reset it, nothing worked. I gave it a good whack against my palm while pressing the play button over and over and well.. it actually worked. Hilarious, but extremely helpful ^-^!

  • rapandrockch Oct 01, 2010

If you keep your Zune plugged into the computer or where ever you charge it, it will over charge and that will kill your battery. you can still plug it into the USB but you can not use it when it is off it happended to my zune

I found that I had to start up the Zune software on my PC to get it to recharge the battery via the USB port. It worked after that.

Ok, This may sound weird but here it goes. I had accidentally dropped my zune on concrete and it actually cracked opened and i just snaped it shut. afterwards i couldnt turn it on, but when i plug it in the computer it turned on but i couldn't navigate the main menu. when i unplugged it i still couldnt turn it on. it took me a while to realize that it might have been the buttons that werent functioning right so i slamed it on my carpetted floor a couple of times figuring i had nothing to lose, lo and behold the buttons worked . yay i have my zune again!!

I had this problem when switching between albums and the fix is suprisingly easy. Hold the back (<=) button and up on the d-pad at the same time and it will reset your zune. If this doesn't work you probably have a more serious problem but this is a simple force-start.

It happened to me also. I put it away for several days to let the battery discharge completely. I then plugged it back into my computer and it started right up! It's still working great and it's been at least a month ago.

Try it!

The same thing happened to me. i plugged it into my computer for about 3-4 hours took it off, didnt do anything then i held down diffrent buttens fro about 10 seconds each and i would do 2 or 3 at a time still nothing worked so i plugged it back into the computer and it booted up right away!

A

Well I did what BEST SOLUTION said. You have to hold the center button, back, and play/pause button for ten seconds. The zune should reboot then and start and work perfectly fine.!

Try pressing the up and left button at the same time while it's plugged in that will do a hard reset. If that doesnt work you need a new motherboard. Your motherboard can be replaced without problems. There are third party Zune repair services, that will fix it for cheap. Even better, I found an DYI Zune repair guide, soyoucan do it yourself too, not that difficult. Part is availableon Ebay. If you can't do it yourself, have a tech savy friend do itfor you.

Hi guys,
I just got an update from the team that I want to share with you. Great news! It looks like this issue will resolve itself over the next 24 hours. Please read the response below. Thank you all for your extreme patience with this!

Early this morning we were alerted by our customers that there was a widespread issue affecting our 2006 model Zune 30GB devices (a large number of which are still actively being used). The technical team jumped on the problem immediately and isolated the issue: a bug in the internal clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year. The issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009. We expect the internal clock on the Zune 30GB devices will automatically reset tomorrow (noon, GMT). By tomorrow you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then turn it back on. If you’re a Zune Pass subscriber, you may need to sync your device with your PC to refresh the rights to the subscription content you have downloaded to your device.

Customers can continue to stay informed via the support page on zune.net (zune.net/support).

We know this has been a big inconvenience to our customers and we are sorry for that, and want to thank them for their patience.

Q: Why is this issue isolated to the Zune 30 device?
It is a bug in a driver for a part that is only used in the Zune 30 device.

Q: What fixes or patches are you putting in place to resolve this situation?
This situation should remedy itself over the next 24 hours as the time flips to January 1st.

Q: What’s the timeline on a fix?
The issue Zune 30GB customers are experiencing today will self resolve as time changes to January 1.

Q: Why did this occur at precisely 12:01 a.m. on December 31, 2008?
There is a bug in the internal clock driver causing the 30GB device to improperly handle the last day of a leap year.

Q: What is Zune doing to fix this issue?
The issue should resolve itself.

Q: Are you sure that this won’t happen to all 80, 120 or other flash devices?
This issue is related to a part that is only used in Zune 30 devices.

Q: How many 30GB Zune devices are affected? How many Zune 30GB devices were sold?
All 30GB devices are potentially affected.

This has happened to mine twice.

Both time i was at the local mall.

I suspect the free Wi-Fi internet there for causing the freeze ups in my Zune.

I dont know if this will work for you but i held down every single button at the same time for about 10 seconds, then release.

The Zune logo appeared shortly after.

It may of been luck but good luck to you.

on this model there are also issues with the dock connector, lock at the bottom and move the dock connector with the tip of the ballpen. if it is loose ore ther are bent pins, that is your issue. You may need to replace it. there is a zune repair guide if you want to do it yourself or have a tech savy friend help you.

My zune wont turn on

I turned on my Zune and the screen froze so I turned it off but it would not turn back on.

I went online and read somewhere that if the screen freezes then you should press up and back and wait for the zune insignia to come on. Well my zune was not just frozen it would not go on but I tried the up and back thing and it worked. it took about 9-13 seconds but it worked so give it a chance and if that doesn't work try charging it overnight. Hope that helps :D
