When I try to sew, I get the error message: "The safety device has been activated" and the hand wheel on the right will not rotate. I've tried everything I can without removing the cover and would like to look inside to see if there are any obvious jams. Thanks!
This page should help explain that error message:

Thanks, Tim - I had already seen that page and neither of their solutions help with my problem. Do you know how to remove the sewing machine case? Thanks again!
I don't - not without it sitting in front of me. Are there any visible screws on the outside? If so, LOOSEN them but DO NOT remove them until you determine for SURE that their removal is necessary to open the shell. I'd hate for something hanging from them to drop down inside. Next, look for seams in the shell. Very often, a shell like that is held together at the seams with little "handgrip" hooks cast right into the shell. If you shape your hand as if it were holding a bucket (no thumb), that's very much like the shape of the hooks I'm referring to - they hold only by virtue of the springiness of the case material. You MAY be able to find some place where you can carefully pry the case apart at the seam, particularly if you press inward on one shell half while tugging outward on the other shell half to release the hook. If you can get ONE to release (perhaps in the least obtrusive spot), you'll see how they're shaped and function, and how to release the rest of them. All the hooks may be on one side of the shell (most often), or the hooks may alternate directions. Oh, and... feel all labels carefully - a manufacturer will often hide screws behind labels, and you can feel them as hollow, "squishy" spots in the label.
