The red light is probably the focusing beam. I'd guess that your flash is turned off somewhere in your settings. Go through the menu and if you find that it is not turned on there might be a hardware problem. Also, if the flash is set to automatic, it will not work when it thinks there is enough light to take a good pic.

SOURCE: Dear Expert, I have a Nikon coolpix S570 digital

Yes the possible solution is alright but there are errors within the camera. Sometimes the lens error is due to failure of the lens control system. You can remove battery and card replace battery and while switching on tap the lens hood on your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck.
Use some air to blow between the lens to dislodge any sand particles struck inside. If none of these works then you can think of taking consensus with the service center.
get estimate before you decide. It will be good to have it checked at the Nikon service as you do not have to run around for spares.

How do you hard reset a nikon coolpix s800c?

There is no such thing as a reset button on your camera. If something oes wrong, or the camera acts strange, the only thing you can do is switch it of and after a few seconds switch it on again. This should be equal to a cold boot from a computer. This should solve all software releated problems. Sometimes yuo could go deeper, by also removing the battery and the memory card. and replacing them after a few moments. But if the problem keeps coming back, it will not be a software problem. Then you could look a bit deeper, like if the lens barrel is blocked, or contacts from battery and or memory card are dirty ot bent. If you can't find a thing, please contact a Nikon Certified service centre.

Change to resolution after picture taken

Sorry, can't be done. Those pixels weren't recorded, so there's no way to regenerate them.

Think of it this way. Suppose you look out the window and see a red car drive by. Look out the window an hour later and maybe a blue car drives by. Now, how many white cars drove by between those two cars? If you weren't looking (or had a surveillance camera), there's no way to tell. In your picture you've got a red pixel over here and a blue pixel over there. There's no way to tell what was in between.

There are some tricks that can be done to interpolate. If you have a bright red pixel and next to it a dark red pixel, then the pixel between them probably was a medium red. But maybe not: there could have been a blue object in between. Or the pixel in the middle might have been the same color as one of its neighbors. There's just no way to be certain.
