When going to final spin cycle. VERY loud, even with very small load.. Drum is hot to touch when spin ends
Sounds to me like your tub bearing is shot in the back center of the tub is tub turning freely or grinding with spin by hand.
Definitely sounds like a bad bearing. Not an easy fix. I wouldn't tackle it unless you're very comfortable with tearing apart the whole machine. You also need to figure out why the bearing went bad. Probably contaminated by a bad seal. If you don't fix the cause, it will just happen again.
The water seal has worn out and water has gotten into the bearings. You need to call a service tech to have it repaired. It is not a cheap repair. Whirlpool has a repair that replaces the back half of outer tub and a new inner tub or basket one in the same. Another salution is replace the seal and bearings, still a lot of labor. go to utube and a guy does to an LG, but the the repair is about the same for a Duet
Manually turn the motor and drum and listen for the
noise, if so the motor bearings, the drum agitator shaft and fittings must be
checked. Also the suspensions which include the shock absorbers and springs,
the body clamps must be checked to be in correct alignment and not changed in
position. Tightening of the mounting is
also very important. Finally in most cases a drop of OIL or smear of grease on
the moving parts cane solve most issues.

It is so common that the washing machine can make terrible noise in many ways and is a common fault. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that machine is vibrating when it is running then the motor /drum suspension has to be inspected. Since these fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for the noise with a good inspection lamp.
