How can I reduce white noise / hissing I'm getting over the mic on a Behringer Xenyx 1204 USB setup?

Hi, you didn't say if the mic actually passes sound? The C-1 is a condenser Mic & needs phantom power - switch on the rear of your mixer. If that's no help, what happens if you disconnect the mic, then turn the levels back up? Still hissing or gone? If it's gone then it's the Mic - must use a 3 wire cable, preferably XLR so it gets the phantom power. If the hiss is still there without the Mic then sounds like the mixer is faulty - try some of the other channels..... How loau is the hiss - just in the background or as load as a vocal "one, two" test? A few things to check anyway...... Good Luck!

I got a rode classic II with avalon m5 mic pre. So when i crank up my mic pre to 60 n i can start listening some hissing from my monitor...or is it normal for a valve mic coz when after recorded with this...

The hiss is caused by your monitor system level and your preamp gain being so high. At high gain settings, a preamp is going to get noisy, and tube mics have a higher noise level to begin with.

If you can't hear it on your recordings, then it's not a problem.

I have several channels that use phantom power. One of those channels develop intolerable hiss when the FX16 has been on for a while (after about an hour). When I unplug the mic connected to the hissing...

Swap channels to verify the problem stays with the channel and is not a function of the mic or cable.
If the problem stays with the channel, it is likely one of the RF bypass caps at the input is failing. It could ALSO be a bad solder on the XLR connector into the board... in either case it will be a PAINFUL repair to get at the problem unless you can re-solder the connector from the bottom if it is the problem.

My srm 450v2 is making a low hissing sound have changed the lead and power chord but its still the same if you tap the mic the noise stops until you start speaking again and it still does it when no xlr...

you may have a bad ground somewhere within the wiring. If the hiss disappears when you use the mic, it is probably because you are temporarily providing a ground with the x channel of your xlr. either the bad ground is within the speaker, or it is within the house wiring. if you have any fluorescent lights nearby, or on a similar circuit, you will get a hum or hiss. Beyond that, I'm not sure what it could be except possibly a blown component within the speaker.

Microphone sound quality

sounds like you are using the wrong fx... acid studio comes with some professional plug ins. use those instead. they have one that allows you to take background air, and noise out of your recording it's call background gate. none if this may make any sense to you so i have pictures.

acidstudioscreenshots001.jpg?t=1252613380

after you click your green FX icon next to your track don't use the features below. go to where the read arrow is pointing. click that green fx icon instead.

acidstudioscreenshots002.jpg?t=1252613564

click the all folder on the left side. on the right side will appear a list of plug in's/special effects (red arrow is pointing to the list). their is one called a noise gate use that to remove background sounds and air.

they have other features like chorus and reverb... these plug in's do great. i hope this helps.

you can add whatever effects you like on one track and save the effects as a name. that way you can add it to every track and don't have to go through the whole process of selecting the same fx for each track. i really hope this helps i'm not very good with explaining things. ha ha ha.

Vocal problem

hi there..if there is video and background audio coming out from the TV, and no voice recognition from the mic- then mic is the problem. I believed the problem is the "voice coil". This is a part that can be replaced- you can contact me and we can repair that.

two ways to check
remove the mic ball
the part which the mic ball is is covering is the voice coil.
try holding both terminals (black and white wire)- if there is feedback sound- it is open and need to be replaced
try using your tester- test the impedance- there should be 500- 600 ohms reading
