Third Unit Burnt Out

Just seen this and I have exactly the same problem, on my third Tom Tom 910 unit after sending the first two away for repair and getting them replaced.

Now support are saying its out of warranty and I will have to pay for repair, It was out of warranty the second time I sent it away but they still replaced it.

Will wait for an answer from support, then call them tomorrow.

If it burned out and this is the 3rd time, it is possible something you are doing to have it occur.
Perhaps not knowingly so, I must add.
Reasons that are common:
You are using the wrong charger unit
You are overcharging the unit ( leaving it on beyond 10 hours)
You are connecting the unit before starting the car engine, sure fire way of killing many GPS units by spiking the mother board. Even the fused end does not always protect the GPS, the current is just slightly lower than the fuse value but sufficient to damage the SIIRF chip or even the power circuit. TT are notorius for burnouts as they are cheaply made. See how many TT's on this forum have the same problem. Most of my time is spent answering Q's on this brand. Get an Altina if you want a better GPS type in Marbella Australia and look at their units, better value for the money
The cost of repair is about 60% of what you paid for the whole unit unless TT have sympathy ( which I doubt)

Down load data from Tom Tom 910

Yes but as a member of the public you will not have the appropriate software or equipment.
Your insurance company will help especially if it helps their claim or the Police will assist you gathering evidence for a prosecution.
Info gained will be speed, time (set by sat gps receiver) not what time you say it is and exact location with 3 square metres and direction of travel.
Hope this helps with your question.

Tom Tom 910 map free update

nope im afraid you will have to cough up for the new maps (map corrections etc will only show new one way directions, and new or adjusted POIs), might be a good idea to wait till brand new maps are available before you splash any cash, good luck

Stip down your tom tom unit, google for instructions and there is a set with pictures, But if not,
1, take the front screen surround off first, be gentle and prise it of with a flat screw driver, then unsrew the chassis from the plastic cover (4 x torx screws under the rubber feet)

2, unscrew the motherboards (torx again) and unclip the cable for the battery, and remore the eject mechanisum for the unit.

3 you may hadve to unscrew the harddrive and front screen if memory serves me well, but not to hard to do at all and my skills are basic but backed up by curiosity :o).

To only way you can fix it is taking apart the Tom Tom, checking if the flat ribbon cable and connector to the screen are well in place and eventually replace the display ($80 on Ebay).
Unfortunately this will invalidate the guaranty, and you risk to damage your GPS if you are not a really experienced DIYer. Tom Tom offer one year full guaranty on all their receivers.

Back light of the LCD display is not working

Get a RMA by TomTom by callinging them directly (see on TomToms webpage) I've solved by shipping my unit to Neaderland with UPS at no cost, they replaced the motherboard (not the display, this  just remained the same!) I've received the repaired 910 after 5 days and I've spent no one cent! And I've got also the battery, AC power supply and software replacement! Other problems of the software are still present: the unit won't cange colors by night-light changes (only one time after a reset...), tryes to connect to phantom computers, after a power on it get off and then on if connected on the car support,... The 910 is a crazy device, not stable at all. I think I'll change it with the new model Go930T Ciao (sorry for my bat english)
