Due to the frosting up, The glass defrost heater broke. Any good tech knows this happens. The defrost heater must be replaced. If this is a GE side by side. The new replacement heater has dual elements. The standard heater that was put in them, was not large enough to defrost the coils fully. Replace heater and you should be fixed up. I would also replace the thermostat while you are in the freezer section they are only like 15 bucks and this way you will have a new defrost circuit.

I have a whirlpool bootom freezer. The refrigerator portion keep getting warm while maintaining the temp level in the freezer remains constant.

It looks like you are getting frost/ice build up in the air vents( freezer is what cools your refrigerator side. If the ice blocks the flow up no air can travel to the other side). You removed the blockage by defrosting it but it will probably come back if the door does not seal properly. The only moisture you can introduce to the freezer is from outside...

Hope that helps

Why does The freezer side stays cold but the refrigerator side gets warm

Your problem is more than likely a defrost issue. There is ice building up in the freezer coils and when it gets blocked with ice the cold air cant blow into the fresh food section. When you shut it off the ice melts and it gets cold again for a few days. remove the freezer back panel and check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. if they check OK then check the defrost timer. It is best to replace all three components at the same time. This way you will be starting out with new components rather than one failing then the other.

Hotpoint side by side has warm fridge and ice build up on back wall of freezer side, barely keeping ice frozen.

OK, you will need to replace the "defrost thermostat" that is located on the coils in the freezer. Here is the part to order. If that was the problem before, the repair tech sold you a part you didn't need. I can't stand service techs that do that! Anyways, keep me posted.

We have a GE side by side and have been having a problem where the temp starts to go up on both sides. I called a tech and they said that it was the main board and even showed me a burnt spot on it. We...

Did the technician check the defroster assembly to make sure that the refrigerator is defrosting?

It sounds like you have an ice build up in the freezer section (sometimes it is behind the shell and you can't see it). I would suggest you take the food out of your freezer section (use a lot of blue ice packs to chill down refrigerator side. And then open up the inner shields on the freezer side to see if you have an ice build up. If you do, then defrost the unit with a hair dryer, order the defrost assembly using the refrigerator specs on your refrigerator, then plug it back in and wait for the part to arrive.

If it is the defroster assembly the refrigerator will work fine for 2-3 weeks, which should give you plenty of time to receive the part. LABEL all wires, before you start disassembly!

What is causing the items in the vegetable bin to freeze and the ice maker is not working,(ice melted in the bin) and the water dispenser is not working and the filter was just replaced a week ago /

Sounds like the source of your refrigerator freezer temperature problem is due to a faulty evaporator fan motor. This fan circulates the air from the freezer to the refrigerator and back to the freezer. When it fails, temps are warm at the top, cold at the bottom, so the ice melts, and the water tank inside the fridge, near the bottom, freezes. I looked up your model #, but it shows no results so i cannot give you a part number.
Also, its possible if you have a control board microcomputer, its bad as well. Some model GE refrigerators the fan burns out part of the computer, necessitating replacing both.

Freezer is not working. Ice maker is working. Started noticing the past 2 weeks that ice cream is melting. Refrigerator is working but not keeping things really cold. The unit is only 3 years old.

ice mker will soon quit as when ice cream is soft the tempt is rising . look for frost build up in back wall of freezer . if so the heaters have failed ( very common ) . they will have to be replaced . there is a new style that replaces mose G E heaters . and they are much better .. mm

Freezer & fridge warms up on average every 6-8 weeks. Remedy turn off and leave 24 plus hours with doors open. On turning on the fridge and freezer cool down again to operating temperature....

Good day,
That's too long a period, for a normal. defrost system failure.
You'll have to wait until it quits, then remove the rear panel and look for ice (not frost) building up somewhere in the freezer compartment.
I have solved similar problems on this model, by replacing the defrost thermostat with a GE 60 degree thermostat, and a WR9X330 GE 6 hour defrost timer to get this model to defrost completely.

It's also possible that the refrigerant charge is slightly low, causing the defrost thermostat not to reach a cold enough temperature to perform a good defrost cycle. (building ice over a long period of time).

Make sure Freon 12 was used when replacing the compressor.
Some substitutes caused the evaporator coil to act as if it was
slightly low on charge.

GE side by side not working

Defrost cycle not functioning. Could be defrost timer, timer motor, or defrost heater. I detailed this for someone else. see other solutions.
