Plays games
SOURCE: playing of pirated dvd movies in sony play station slim
This may be because DVD movies have a reigion code on the disk and on a pirated disk this code may be removed. When the ps2 fails to find the code, it aborts playing the disk. I believe the regional lockout for games (which i assume you have disabled) is a different system to DVD lockouts.

I'm afraid your PS3 is dead. It's very rare, it happened to me too. Nobody's sure why it happens, but it just stops reading any disks at all, even though it retains all other functionality.
You've got to take it back to wherever you bought it with a reciept and they can either replace it or send it off to Sony for it to be fixed.

sounds like the blu ray diode is burnt.
Send it to Sony for warranty replacement

You will have to replace the laser in the blu-ray drive. It will run about 80 dollars just for the laser. If you need more information email me at [email protected]
Thanks,

SOURCE: AFTER WORKING FOR A YEAR,
1. Turn off the ps3.
2. press down on the on/off button on the front of ps3 while turning on the button from the back. DO not let it go until you hear 2 beeps and will show a red light.
3. press the on/off button again and do not let it go until you hear 1 beep, paused, and two beeps. Let it go.
4. There should be a prompt asking you what to do. If you have hdmi, answer all the question yes etc.
5 there should be a menu list asking what you need done.. setting wise..
6. Choose the # 3rd list (not sure how many they were).
7. IF it tells you that your data is corrupted etc.. just click ok
8. wait till progress ends ( if it tells your your data is corrupted again, just click ok again).
9. It's going to do some loading again...
