Replaced with new ink stil won't print black leters borders etc.
Check installed bk ink cart, that you didn’t re-install old one (yes that can happen) 2. That you removed the tape over the contacts on new one. 3. That you have all carts programmed. ( on some printers one can program to use colors to produce black, if the black is out). 4. Call for support if above fails
The black is plugged in the printhead. take it out, and to the sink. run hot water thru the head. rinse it thoroughly. even put the nozzles up to the sink nozzle and force water thru it. when it decided to unplug you will get a bunch of black ink for a second or two. then take the head and shake it out and if possible blow it out with compressed air. get it dry then take a pencil eraser to the contact points on the back of the printhead to clean them. reinstall your printer and let it cycle to charge the printhead. try to print. if not good results try one more clean and if still no black, go back to the sindk and try again. repeat this a couple of times, if it doesn't work, let it sit in really hot water for a while then try to flush it out again. make sure it is dry when you put it back into the printer. try to print again. do use good inks to do this. empty ones won't work.
SOURCE: Replaced Original Black Ink Cartridge but still bad low ink prints and low ink indicator lit.
Sounds like the print head is dirty take some rubbing alcohol and qtip and clean the print head.
SOURCE: new cartridge won't print
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Note: [HEAD REFRESHING] uses more ink than [HEAD CLEANING], so perform [HEAD REFRESHING] only when necessary.
Thanks, Joe

SOURCE: PRINTING WITH BLACK INK CARTRIDGE ONLY; COLORED CARTRIDGE IS EMPTY.
Apparently, if you hold the "resume button" (the one next to the power button) for about five seconds after you get the message saying to replace the color ink cartridge the machine starts printing. I did this after I went to "maintenance" under "preferences" and changed ink to "black only." At first that alone did not work, but after trying the resume button for 5 secs it worked okay.

SOURCE: Black Ink won't print on my Cannon ip90 Printer
I had this problem recently with my IP90. Both the black and color heads were clogged. After running the "canned" routines several times to clean the heads and deep clean the heads...still didn't help...here's what I did:
1. open the top lid to have the cartridges that are inserted in the print head move to the middle of the printer.
2. remove both cartridges
3. What is left there is the print head holder. Slightly move it to the right and gently lift the print head lock.
4. Grasp the print head and lift it out of the tank.
5. Have several paper towels hand and know that you will have color and bw ink on your fingers
6. Put the print head on the paper towel
7. Pour rubbing alcohol on the blk and color heads and let them sit of about 10-15 minutes.
8. after that dry the heads and re-insert them in the printer
9. I put new cartridges in the printer and ran clean and deep clean a few times.
10. My color and black and white print came right back!
Hope this helps.
