The best option would be the HDMI-to-HDMI connection between your player and your TV. But because you mentioned that your TV is an old model, probably it does not have an HDMI port, in which case you have to use the RCA A/V connection. I understand you do not have a remote control for your TV, but you do not program a TV channel to watch DVD movies; you just switch between your TV and the DVD player as your audio/video sources. Here is what you have to do: check on your TV box for a button labeled 'Source' or 'Input'. Press on the button and it will alternate between TV and DVD (assuming you do not have any other device hooked up to your TV).

if you want to hooked up your dvd player to a tv unit, you can use an rca connector. usually 3 wires for video and L/R audio. to connect with in the tv plug one end of the connector to the component input jack of the tv ( video/audio L/R ). and the other end of the connector just plug to the video/audio output jack of the dvd player.

First with the TV and the DVD player off, connect the cables with the best possible connection that you can. The cable with the red,white and yellow plugs on both ends is a Composite Video cable. If this is the best output on your DVD player, connect the cable to those jacks and to the matching color connections for a composite (or A/V) in on your TV. Alternatively, use two (usually the red and white plugs) for your audio connection and get a separate S-Video cable and connect that to your TV and DVD player. Composite and S-video both carry only an standard definition (480p) video output.

Your DVD player may have other connections. You will need to buy the other cables to connect these but you will get a better picture (high definition video) if you can use component or HDMI cables. The component video cable uses three plugs (usually red, blue and green) to carry the video signal. You also use the RCA audio cable (red/white) to carry the audio between the TV and the DVD player. HDMI cables carry the video and sound on one cable and looks somewhat like a large USB cable (the side that connects to the computer - rectangular). These cables are available at many stores that sell electronics but you can find them at better prices at online stores that sell cables.

Once you have these cables, turn on the TV and look for a button on your remote (or the TV) that says Source or Input. Press this button several times until you are at the input that corresponds to the one that your DVD player is connected to. (Some of my TVs have more than one of a given input; so you have to match AV1 or AV2 for example.) Then turn on the DVD player. (Note for some TVs it is possible to delete inputs from the source list when they aren't used. You may need to edit this list to see the correct inputs.) If this doesn't help, try turning off the TV then turn on the DVD player first and then the TV and locate the correct input.

Without knowing the TV or DVD player models, I can't identify all of your inputs and how to determine the best one for you to use. If you add a comment with the model information, I'll give you additional assistance if I can.

(the inputs on all of my TVs have labels in a small font. Often each input choice is surrounded by a box so that you don't accidentally plug in the audio cable at Component 2 and the video cable at Component 1. You may want a magnifying glass to make sure that you correctly identify the source that you need to find in the input list.)

Follow these steps: Component Video Connection 1. Get a component video cable. This cable has 3 sets of connectors, one each for the red, blue and green color signals.
2 Match the connectors to the appropriate video output jacks on the DVD player. Component video outputs will normally be labeled Cr/Cb/Cy. The Cy output jack is matched to green, Cr to red and Cb to blue.
3 Run the cable from DVD player to the TV. Most TV connections are made from the back panel, but this may vary.
4 Match the connectors to the appropriate video input jacks on the TV.
If using S-Video Connection
1 Get an S-video cable. This cable has a single round connector with 4 pins.
2 Attach one end of the S-video cable to the S-video output jack on the DVD player.
3 Attach the other end to the S-video input jack on the TV.
Composite Video Connection 1 Get a composite video cable. These types of cables are frequently bundled with two-channel audio cables. Composite video cables are tipped with yellow plugs.
2 Plug one end of the composite video cable into the composite video output jack on your DVD player.
3 Plug the other end into the composite video input jack on your TV.

Use three RCA cables, yellow, white and red to connect DVD player to TV as shown in the diagram below. Connect yellow to yellow and white to white. Connect red to red. Select on the TV, the A/V input where the DVD is connected using the TV remote control. Power on TV and DVD, place a disc in tray of DVD player and press PLAY.

How to hookup TV

If you have a TV with only a single coax input and you want to hook up components like DVD players and VCRs, here's how to do it.



What you need to connect your DVD player or game players to a TV that only has a VHF/UHF 75-ohm F-connector ("coax antenna input").

1.) RF Modulator with Stereo Audio Inputs.



2.) 6 foot long coaxial cable with male "F" connectors. This cable goes from the modulator to the TV. The modulator also has a coaxial input to plug in your antenna or your VCR.



3.) 6 foot long Video and Audio Cables with "RCA" plugs. The cables connect the yellow, red and white outputs from your DVD or game player to the yellow, red and white inputs of the modulator.





Works with X-Box, PlayStation, Nintendo or other devices that output audio/video via the RCA plugs and you want to connect them to your coaxial only TV.

I might sound stupid but Double check that you`ve connected the correct connectors as in All Inputs plugs being used or All outputs plugs being used. If you have one of these leads with 6 connectors on one lead, (Audio Input L+R, Video Input, Audio Output L+R, Video Output) You need to make sure that if you get sound from the audio input plugs, then you must use the video input plug and vice verse. You will need a TV or monitor with audio/visual inputs. The better ones have what is known as an S/VHS input, which separates the TV picture signal for better color reproduction. You will need to be able to switch your TV, usually by the channel selector, to the proper input for audio visual signals. Sometimes this is known as Video 1, Video 2, A/V etc. These are usually below Channel 2. Maybe your remote has that option. You will need an a/v cable. This is a three-connector cable with RCA plugs on each end. Connect the DVD player to the TV as follows: 1. Yellow cable, from video OUT on the DVD player, to video IN on the TV. Video is ALWAYS yellow. 2. Red and white cables from audio OUT on the DVD player to audio IN on the TV. 3. If you have S/VHS capability, buy an S/VHS patch cable which will have the three plugs mentioned, plus a round 4-pin plug. Select S/VHS OUT on the DVD player, and S/VHS IN on the TV. When using S/VHS, ignore the yellow connector. It is for composite video and not needed. Here's a hint: Your YV audio/visual inputs will usually be on the back of the set. Some better units have a/v inputs in front. What if my TV doesn't have a/v inputs? If your DVD player as an RF output, connect an RF "f" cable from that output to the antenna in cable on your TV. Otherwise buy an RF converter (about $20 or so at Radio Shack). Connect your a/v cable (yellow, red and white) from the DVD player to toe converter, then connect an RF cable (like the kind your cable box is connected with) to the antenna input on your TV. This signal usually comes in on Channel 3. Let me know if your problem is more complicated, It seems like a lot of wires and connections, but it is really straightforward, Remember, yellow is ALWAYS video. The two audio cables can be connected without worrying about color.
