I have the same problem. The screen saver is partially frozen on the screen on the upper right corner and then blank down the rest of the right side. The rest of the screen is readable and I'm able navigate (turn pages, select different books, etc).

SOURCE: My kindle will not start up even though it has

Yes:

  1. Get a watch with a hand for the seconds.
  2. Slide and hold the power switch for 7 seconds. After about 5 seconds the power light flashes three times. After 7 seconds, the screen will go blank and the device is switched off now. Release the switch.
  3. Slide and hold the power switch for 15 seconds (no more, no less). Do not hold the switch too long, the time window for the reset is not very big.
  4. After releasing the switch just wait. The Kindle will reboot after a few seconds.

SOURCE: kindle fire has red battery showing. I have charged it but it wont work

It may be the power cord but it is possible that your Kindle Fire's battery has died. If you noticed the battery life diminishing before it started flashing a red battery symbol this may be the case. Here is a site that has replacement batteries for the Kindle Fire:

I am having with e-mail only. However it doesn't hold a battery charge as long as it did either.

Rechargeable batteries have a finite lifetime. As they age, they slowly wear out and it is normal for them to not hold a charge as long as they used to. If it gets so the battery is only lasting an hour or two, having a new battery installed is probably your only viable option. Five years is probably old enough so that battery will not be near as long-lasting as it was when new.

My kindle won t turn on

Her is a possible solution:
1. Plug into the original charger, hold the power down for a full 30 seconds, release. Let charge in this state for 12 hours.
2. Lease the device plugged into the charger, while you have the device plugged into power, press the power button for a full 40 seconds, release. Wait for 5 seconds and then press and release the power button. Did the device wake up? No, continue to step 3.
3. Plug the device into another charger, if you do not have an charger from another phone go to Staples or Radio Shack pick up a new Kindle or Universal charger, make sure you can return the charger.
4. Plug the Kindle into the new or alternate charger. Hold down the power button for 30 seconds release. Let charge for 12 full hours.
5. Unplug the Kindle from the charger.
6. Press the power button for 40 seconds - time it. Release the power button, wait for 5 seconds, then press and release the power button. The Kindle should wake up. If not, proceed to step 7.
7. If you can not wake up the Kindle from a 'hard reset' the Contact Amazon directly for a replacement.
