Kenmore 80's series top loader only works on wash and rinse cycle

Kenmore 80's series top loader fills, agitates on wash , will not release water on spin cycle. I can manually move it to rinse, but again , it stops working once it encounters the spin cycle. There is a click sound at the end of the wash and rinse cycle, then everything is silent- no noise- no spinning , and it just remains that way until I manually move it -only works on wash and rinse cycles!

Hi, I decided to replace the lid switch first (I just didn't feel like dealing with a washer full of clothes and water). Upon inspection, the switch was clearly broken or popped open,if you will. That solved the problem! (I read other peoples' commentaries with similar problems and that's what drew me to replacing the lid switch.) However, if this had not worked, checking the pump for clogs would've been my second move! So, I do thank you for that advice. Thanks, again!

This is a problem with the pump being stuck so the motor cant turn the whole thing. Turn the washer on its side, underneath you can acces the pump, which is connected to the motor by two long clips. remove the pump and take out the colg that caused it to get stuck.

Kenmore 700 series top loader washer. I put it on the normal cycle, the washer fills and agitates for a few minutes (maybe 5) then drains only to fill back up and finish the cycle. Is this normal?

no
some cycle the agitator during the fill cycle to get better distribution of the clothes as it is filling and then shut of the water and proceed to the wash cycle
have a technician check out the program board

Kenmore 80 series washer

Your transmission is not engaging thats why the speed changes your making will sometimes get it to work.Honestly any machine after the 10 year age mark is not worth the cost of replacing the transmission.
