What you need to do to test the chips is check the fuse for each of them. Fa 4 and fa5 I believe. If the fuses are open the chips are shorted or drawing excessive current.
If you had been viewing lines on your screen for awhile this is the next level of that problem.
If the fuses are open ,your getting a code flashing on your TV and it's not turning on.

Those chips have to both be replaced even if your just at the lines through the picture stage of the problem.
High skill level required or lots of guts and even more patience.

SOURCE: Update and a few questions (Convergence Problems - VS-55601 55 in Projection)

yes, they go bad interment because they have a large current go thru them and they generate heat, they are mounted on a heat sink with white silicone to help disapate heat. replace both not just one, try MCM Electronics get heat sink compound also

SOURCE: on a mitsubihi wt42311 tv where are the STK-392-110 convergence chips located?

Pretty easy to see them as they are marked with that number right on them.

They will be side by side and on a metal heat sink to keep them cool.

I have sony tv kp-65wv600. It has problems. color and video is blurry, double vision, letters are curved

You have a convergence failure.

Convergence IC failure is very common. The solution is to replace the STK chips, check fuses and the resistors next to the STK chips. Replace as necessary and re-align via the service menu. It is about a $300 repair at a tv service center. You will need the service manual if you decide to do this yourself.

Try This:
When you notice the symptons Use this simple test to verify.
Go to the users menu on the tv.
Look for the converge option probably under setup or video setting. Converge is short for convergence to align the red and blue colors to the green color.

If you cannot move the red either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for red section.
If you cannot move the blue either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for the blue section.

If you can move both in each direction then the problem is something else.

Note if one STK chip fails, you replace both regardless

On my HD1080 Mitsubishi projection flat screen 55809 the picture is bowed on top and bottem and it look as if the projectors themselves are offset, but the picture is clearer as you come toward the center....

It could be one of two things: Either a bad solder joint or convergence IC failure.

At times the screen becomes double

When you say "double" do you mean you see the colors somewhat seperated or see maybe blue or red outlines around objects? Does the screen distort?

I have a sony Projection TV KP46WT510 convergence issue. How can I fix it? I see fusy picture with red and bleu double picture. I tried the convergence fix in manual and it shows the issue but could not...

Your TV most likely a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

3dc9420.jpg

0dcec37.jpg
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.
