On newer Sony TVs you press the CC button to cycle through the available settings for Closed Captions (CC): On, Off, and On when
Muting.

However, it looks like your factory remote control lacks a CC button and your TV menu appears to have a simple Off/On option for what Sony calls Caption Vision. If that is the case then you would need to manually turn on Caption Vision when you mute the television. That hardly seems like the solution you're after.

If you had an aftermarket remote control that could record macros you might be able to program it so that when you press the mute button the TV would mute and also turn on Closed Captioning. This would require the proper remote control and some expertise.

How do you remove closed captioning? I have a 4yr old 50" plasma tv. Today the captioning just popped up and I can't figure out how to get rid of it

Hi

1* Use the CAPTION button repeatedly to select Caption Off, EZ Mute, or On.
* EZ Mute shows the selected captions option (if available on program) when the TV sound is muted.
2* Press the ENTER button to save.

Caption Tips

* Not all TV broadcasts include closed caption signals.

* Sometimes TV stations broadcast four different caption signals

on the same channel. By selecting CC 1 to CC 2, you

can choose which signal you view. CC 1 is usually the signal

with the captions, while Another mode might show demonstration

or programming information.

* Your TV might not receive caption signals normally in the following
situations.
OK.

Closed caption problems

Most sets do not automatically go CC when Mute is pressed--it's a feature on some. They are either on or off and the systems are different for old SD (white on black) and for new digital and HD (control colors, font, and size). I wouldn't want a mute indicator and CC but I do have CC on all the time--yellow on transparent. The NTSC-analog had the captions encoded on a video line (21 22 or 23?). ATSC does not have those wasted off-picture lines and sends it separately. -Ken

I need help with removing captions

This information was found on the Magnavox website http://www.m4c.magnavox.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?scy=US&slg=AEN&cat=TV_CONVENTIONAL_CA&sct=TV_LARGE_25_29_SU&grp=TV_GR&session=20090602222010_68.190.209.25&ctn=27MS343S&mid=Link_UserManuals&hlt=Link_UserManuals in the owners manual on page 20. If this information does not solve your problem. Try calling Magnavox customer support at this telephone number 1-800-705-2000. Give them the model number of your television and tell them about the problem you are having with not being able to turn of the closed caption feature. I hope this helps you solve your problem. 1Press MENU to show the on-screen

Closed captions stopped working

Is this on everything you watch? Not all shows or broadcasts have closed caption.
Does it work when you mute volume? Closed caption can be set to only come up when volume is muted. If so, check settings in menus.

Closed Captioning comes on every time i turn on the tv!

Apparently the 2002 Sharp model TV that I purchased has the closed captioning by default if the mute button is engaged. So there is no solution for my particular model, it has been built in this way. The only solution is not to use the mute button and lower the volume instead.

Closed caption

Are you talking computer or TV?
Closed caption on a TV is when the volume is muted and it prints the speech in a box on the screen. You have to turn it on in the menu.

Close caption turns on and off by itself problem

Check the cable box to make sure the captions aren't truned on in the cable box.

If not -if it really is the Magnavox caption service- then -

This is assuming you have the original remote:

menu.
2 Press VOL+ or VOL- until SET is highlighted.
3 Press CH+ or CH- repeatedly to
highlight CLOSED CAPTION.
4 Press VOL+ or VOL-
to display the
CLOSED CAPTION menu.
5 Press CH+ or CH- to select the
closed caption you want (OFF, CC-1,
CC-2, or CC-MUTE).
CC-MUTE sets
the TV to show closed captions when
you press MUTE. The TV volume will be
disabled until you press MUTE again to
restore the sound.
6 Press VOL+ or VOL-
