Good luck.

You should check if in the device manager the sound card shows up. Also, check the BIOS to see if it is not disabled.

Okay, go to the HP website and download the speaker drivers. It will require a reboot.
Also, try checking the Control Panel Sound Settings if the volume is low from there. This is because increasing the system volume won't work if there is a mute enabled on the speakers themselves.
Also check if the item 'Use This Device (Enable)' is selected. Go to your speaker properties. It is in the dialog box that appears now. Loom at the bottom of it for a drop down menu.
The volume settings are available in the other tabs. Make sure the volume is at 100 and the mute is unchecked.
Please rate this answer. I want to get to a higher level. I am a great contributor to computers in Yahoo! Answers too.

It would mean that there are NO DRIVERS installed for that device. what you need to do is go to the toshiba web site and download the CORRECT drivers for your sound card.
Its not a big problem you just need to ensure you use the correct model when you search Toshiba for drivers in the support area

Press the Windows key on the Keyboard and then press the "R" key while holding down the Windows key to open the Run dialog box.
Then, type "msinfo32" in the Run dialog box and click OK to open the System Information window.
On the left pane, click on the plus sign next to the "Components" then click on the Sound devices to check if the Window is able to recognize the audio card installed in the Computer.
If there is no audio device information available in the System Information window then the issue may be with the audio card.
To ensure if the issue is with the audio card, you may try reinstalling Windows.
If the issue still exist even after reinstalling Windows then you may contact the service center of the computer's manufacturer to get the audio card replaced with a compatible one.
