Make sure your ic maker is empty. On the bottom of the ice maker is a small button. Watch the plastic fill tube and hold the botton in. Let the ice maker cycle anmd see if the water over shhoots rne ice maker. If it does, trim 1/8 of an inch off of the tube with a raxor knife on an angle = / this should take care of your problem.

You may have a leaking water tank in the refrigerator and needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: My LG french door refrigerator

Preventing this could be quite tricky. But the best way to prevent this is to make sure you defrost the unit at regular intervals. Although the refrigerator part should have the defrost feature already in place but the freezer is normally expected to keep frozen goods so usually does not defrost automatically.
Also you can try to regulate the quantity of things which are put in the freezer segment as overloading the freezer could cause the problem you are experiencing.
Finally ensure that things which can generate water deposits at the bottom of the freezer are allowed to drain their water content before they are put in the freezer.
Once these are done you should not experience ice build up on the freezer door again.
Hope this solution has been helpful?
