My stove lights very slow with a low flame. Should the igniter stay on after it lights oven

Yes the ignitor stays on even after the burner is lit. The ignitor is wired in series with the oven valve. It sounds like the oven valve isn't opening all the way. A new ignitor should solve this problem. The old igniter builds up resistance and doesn't let the correct voltage through to the oven valve for it to open properly.

Low flame and not heating oven

we had the same problem on our 10 yr old creda. gas man said new ffd required (flame failure device). he reckoned on around 80 pounds sterling for new part, even if it was still available, plus maybe 2 hours labour. we bought a new cooker!

Brand new gas range

i would look into the valve/regulater at which you connected the gas line, off to the side or somewhere on the regulater itself there should be a shut off for the oven control, simply flick to open positon and you should start right up. it would shut off gas to oven but allow burners to light.
