Deck belt i have yardman by mtd 42'' cutting deck. i need the right belt size and diagram

First is to check the belt diagram and make sure your belt is on the correct side of the engagement pulley. This would be the one on the left side of deck with a spring attached.

If you have a single idler pulley you should have a 38" deck. If the deck has two idlers, then you must have a 42"deck. You should be able to approximate by measuring. This is the "cutting" width, not overall width. Two things might have happened. You didn't get the right belt, or you haven't routed it properly. Here is a link to the Yardman web site to download your manual if you don't have it.
