Tuner shuts off, pops, turns on, but does not tune in the channel

I suspect the DMR-BWT460GN has a weaker tuner than the DMR-BWT700. You can try moving your antenna. If it's outside, try a taller mast and make sure to check that the antenna hasn't rotated a few degrees on the mast. If you have an indoor antenna, switch to an outdoor one that is as high as possible.

If the transmitters are in different directions from your location, you can try combining the signals from two antennas pointing in the different directions. Alternatively, try an antenna rotator to move the antenna to align with the transmitters, as needed. (There are some that are automatic and change direction when you change channels.)

I hope these ideas help. Unfortunately, the only other option is to try and find a recorder with a better tuner. That would require trial and error testing with multiple boxes due to manufacturing issues.

Fine tune the position of the antenna. Sometimes it only takes a slight movement to capture those channels.If you don't have an amplified antenna, get one. That may solve your problem. The tuner will not manual tune if there isn't a strong enough signal for the tuner to see.

Many times the re-scan tune option goes away if you've selected an input on the TV other than the "tuner", "Antenna" or similar (ie: AV1, HDMI1, Sat, Cable, etc.do not make use of your TV's internal tuner).

Make sure you select an input on your TV, ( tuner, etc.) that will use the tuner and have an antenna or non-digital Cable TV coaxial cable connected. Then attempt to scan again.

it's not failing to tune, it shutting off as tuned. 1.25:1 is below it's threshold to tune

It's much more likely to be the antenna. How old is the TV? Check whether the antenna connection is loose. Check whether the antenna cabling is all connected. Did anything change just before the TV stopped working, like someone doing work outside? If you're receiving cable TV check the connections to and from the cable box.

With digital OTA TV signals, a lot of things could cause you to fail to pick up a signal on any channel. First, do you have an indoor or outdoor antenna and how far are you from the transmitters for you local stations? Digital signals are either enough to for the tuner to interpret or you get no signal. Next check that the antenna is pointing at your stations' transmitters. Use antennaweb.org or tvfool.com to check the direction for your location. Antennaweb assumes an external antenna and provides a very conservative list of stations.

Check for buildings, hills or tall trees that might block the signal to your location.

If your antenna is providing a signal to several TVs, try a direct connection (taking out the splitter). You may need an amplified splitter to minimize the signal loss. Note: amplifiers (whether at the splitter or part of the antenna) can fail and become signal filters (blockers) instead. The direct connection tests this as well.

If another TV does pick up the signal from the antenna (at this point), then the tuner may have failed. It may also just be a weaker tuner compared to the other TV. Surges (for example, lightning strikes) can cause a tuner failure. In that case, you need a new tuner. (a stand-alone tuner like the converter boxes might work) or try a site like shopjimmy.com, searspartsdirect.com or partstore.com. This TV was made by Funai so you may see other TVs that use the same part.

(I have two TVs with different quality tuners. With one, when the antenna shifts slightly out of place, I can lose the ability to tune in the channels from the closest transmitters. The other TV does not lose the signal until the antenna rotates more than 90 degrees from its usual position.)

Make sure you have a good connection from antenna to TV. Check antenna and cable and cable connection to TV. Select DIGITAL button on TV remote when wanting HD channels. Remember HD channels are always digital. Also, any given TV station may not be broadcasting in HD at a given time. They can broadcast in digital but in standard definition sometimes. Your TV has a built-in DVB-T tuner. Try executing a channel scan to pick up all available channels. On-screen menus go to Digital Setup, then Digital Tuning, you can auto-tune or manual tune channels. The TV should take a few min. to scan thru available channels and store the channels its finds. Check with anyone in your area to see if they get HD channels (it is possible to be outside of the range of some TV stations) Your TV is a 2006 model and should still be compatible with local digital TV broadcasts but keep in mind digital signals could change in the near future (DVB-T2) and you may need a tuner/converter box to make the TV compatible.

Since the TV has a tuner for ATSC, NTSC, and Clear-QAM, the next question is what is your signal source? (analog, digital and unscrambled cable)

If you are using OTA, make sure that the input is set to Antenna. Use antennaweb.org or tvfool.com to check the direction to point your antenna and the appropriate antenna for your distance to the transmitter. antennaweb assumes an external antenna and is very conservative in the list of channels you should be able to receive. tvfool gives the stations available with different antennas. If you have several tvs connected to one source, you may need an amplifier in addition to the splitter. This also can help marginal signals come in since digital is either enough for the tuner to resolve or no signal. (Check splitters and amplifiers if you suddenly can't get a signal that you used to receive. Also check if the antenna has been turned.)

Menu > Channel > Auto Tuning or Manual Tuning. If Lock System is active, you will need the password. Auto Tuning only searches for digital or cable channels. The manual tuning option should provide the signal strength as well for digital stations (as well as letting you search for analog signals or all signals (digital, analog, cable).

Use the input Cable for coax cable connections. Other inputs will not allow you to search for channels since they are meant to be controlled by the set-top box feeding the system.

The problem is a bad tuner. Very common problem in XM and Sirius tuners. New models do not have this issue, they are built by DEI and very reliable. You can purchase a rebuilt tuner for around 50 and it will not have the same problem again. Hope this helps, check EBAY for rebuilt tuners.
