Shut down the iPad. Hold both on/off button AND Home button until you get White apple. Wait for it to restart and you should be back in business.

If iOS 7 is installed on the device then this is a built-in security measure against theft to prevent a thief from erasing content and using as new. You will need to get in touch with the original owners.

2. Click the name of your iPad at the upper right corner of iTunes, and then the information of your iPad will be shown. Click the "Restore iPhone" button in the window to start.
3. iTunes will ask whether you want to back up iPad before restoring. You'd better choose "Yes" for the reset will erase the contents in your iPad. Then iTunes will start restoring your tablet to factory settings.
4. Click Restore again to confirm. Then iTunes erases your iPad and installs the latest iOS software. After you restore your iPad to factory settings, it will restart. Now you can set it up as new.

How can I transfer music from a flash drive like leaf bridge to my iPad Air and then have that music stored in iCloud?

You can attach some flash drives to Apple's $29 iPad Camera Connection Kit. (If you have an iPad with a Lightning connector you'll additionally need Apple's $29 Lightning to USB Camera Adapter.) Let me underscore some. Some flash drives require more power than the iPad can provide and won't work.

For the second question, here's also a guide to help you back up iPad music to iCloud.
  1. Connect your iPad to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. In iOS 8 or later, tap Settings > iCloud > Backup. ...
  3. Make sure that iCloud Backup is turned on.
  4. Tap Back Up Now. ...
  5. Make sure the backup finished by tapping Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage, and then select your iPad.
If you have a new computer, you can also backup iPad music onto it.

Lost all contacts on iPad mini

If the important contacts in iPad get deleted, you will try to get them back. Restoring iPad with the iTunes backup is the easiest way to recover deleted contacts on iPad mini. If you update your iPhone backups regularly, then you can recover most of the important data from the backup. The restoring process is also easy to be done, and the following tutorial is for the new users of iOS devices:
  1. Connect iPad mini to computer with USB cable, and iTunes will launch automatically. If not, you should manually start iTunes.
  2. iTunes will recognize iPhone and display the iPad icon at the upper left corner. Click the iPad icon.
  3. The control panel of iPhone appears after you click the iPad icon. Click Summary in the panel.
  4. Click Restore Backup in the right part of the window. Then iTunes will allow you to choose the iPad backup, and finish the restore.

My first generation iPad appears to be totally dead. When I plug it into charge all I see is the flashing Apple. Is there a way to get the system going again ?

The battery in it has most likely expired and may cost more than a new iPad to replace. A voltmeter across the charger or a friends iPad may be useful to test your charger works ok.

You will have to restore it by connecting to iTunes on your computer. That will erase all settings including the password. If you have a backup you can get it then set up as a new device with a new password.

Ipad has usb chord and itunes logo/ wont start

If the iPad is frozen and can't be restarted the normal way, press and hold the sleep/wake button and the home button together for at least 10 seconds. The red slider may appear and the screen may dim but don't release the 2 buttons until the apple logo appears. If this doesn't work, you will need to backup and restore the iPad.Upgrade to latest version of iTunes, then connect to computer and select it when it appears under devices. If you haven't done a sync do so now.Click summary tab and then restore. If you haven't done a backup you will be prompted to do so.This will backup all settings on iPad..Next click restore and if you have completed all steps, wait until iPad completes the restore and returns to home screen.
