Both sound like bad LCD panels. The following must be answered to confirm this:
Do the lines appear on all inputs/all signal sources?
Can they be seen in the OSD/menu?
If yes to both questions, it is likely that the LCD panel is bad

Well it can indeed be fixed, i see these from time to time in my, shop, however there are quite A few "Causes" for this "Symptom", It's my professional opinion, that you get a "Quote" from a Sony, head office recommended service center, and ask for a "Quote" for repair. This way you will be able to make an informed decision.

hi all .ive had the same problem,a thick black line down screen.sometimes it flickers from top to bottom and other permantly in view.but i have solved it.forget your ic boards and taking apart tv.have you got either a ps3 or wii connected to tv.if so unplug power lead from socket and relocate in seperate socket.make sure the lead is completely free of any other leads and you might just find this works.i think the power lead creates some sort of frequency that the tv picks up .good luck hope it works

This model indicated should not be able to do that---a line left to right in most conventional sets is a vertical circuit problem--is it possible you have listed the wrong brand or MODEL number?
