I hope that the printer is connected via USB. If yes, please do not connect the USB cable before running the software. The software shall prompt you to connect the printer. Once prompted, please connect the USB cable and make sure the printer is powered on.

To get confirmation page do this:
1. On the control panel, press Setup ( ).
2. Use the arrow buttons to select Reports, and then press OK.
3. Use the arrow buttons to select Fax Reports, and then press OK.
4. Use the arrow buttons to select Fax Confirmation, and then press OK.
5. Use the arrow buttons to select the option for when you want the fax error reports to be printed.
6. Press OK to save the selection.

To iclude first page with report:
1. On the control panel, press Setup ( ).
2. Use the arrow buttons to select Reports, and then press OK.
3. Use the arrow buttons to select Fax Reports, and then press OK.
4. Use the arrow buttons to select Include 1st page, and then press OK.
5. Use the arrow buttons to select On, and then press OK to confirm the selection.

I had a similar problem as this with P1005 and Vista home. It could never get past the plug in printer to finish installation.
How I solved it was plugging in the printer, turning it on, going into the device manager and finding the printer. It was stuck under Other. Had a question mark next to it. I double clicked on the name, it opened up the details. I clicked on update driver. Browsed to HP CD that came with printer, it found teh first driver (not in the 9X directories). Clicked on the main driver and it installed!!
That's how I did it.

The problem is usually caused by printing a PDF file with fonts/page size/ page formating errors which will cause the printer to display the 49.3048 error. The only way to use the printer is to POR or recycle the power and delete the print job from the server or spooling device and cancel it on the printer before the offending command is issued to the printer again. You can try updating the firmware to the latest version 46.140.5 from the HP website. MIke L.
