Windows won't recognize my pulse smart pen. I've tried downloading multiple files to get it working right again but nothing works.

How old is it? The OLEDs on mine went south after a few years. I find the pen, albeit a great idea, the execution is junk. No user replaceable battery?? Its really planned death.

If it behaves like this for multiple computers with multiple operating systems, I would think that the problem is with the hard drive or with how the files were stored. I would recommend trying a free recovery utility:

If this does not work, there are professionals who can do this service for you however it is generally expensive.
As a last ditch effort, boot your computer from a free Ubuntu CD (http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download) and see if it recognizes your files.

Hi i am glad to be able to help you with this. I had the same problem and this is what i did.... 1) Open livescribe desktop 2) Dock your livescribe pen. 3) Click on the audio tab on the top left hand corner. 4) Left click on your last audio download 5) Release the mouse and hold down the shift key on your keyboard and at the same time pressing the arrow up key until all of your downloads are selected. 6) Right click on the page with your mouse and select from the shortcut menu " Remove audio from smartpen ". This will remove all your recordings from your smartpen but they will be saved on your computer(livescribe desktop). Please note that the process of clearing your pen's memory takes a while ( approx. 5-8mins for 1GB). Your livescribe desktop may indicate that it is not responding but don't remove you pen. When your pen's memory is cleared it will be indicated on your desktop. You will also notice during this processthat a pen and a computer are highlighted on your pen's display.

NO...
Flash drives are just like any drive....nothing specific....you cant del system files...even if you format the pen drive the system files are there....

you pc is behaving funny as the USB port is having trouble / pen drive is not connected properly....as no specific drivers are installed fore the USB ports...it's all Windows drivers that sue the USB ports....

Sol
1 remove the pen drive
2 switch off and switch on the PC
3 reconnect the pen drive

it should work now...

If the pen does that in all pc's then the data is truly corrupted and nothing you can do will fix that. Format the pen, put more data on it and try to read it. If the corrupt message appears again then the pen is dead, junk it.

your pen drive is not recognize by the usb port onyour computer, remove the pen drive from the port and insert it to another usb port on your computer, if you still having problems, restart the computer and try again on a different port.

USB drives do not drivers for it to work.

Smartview is supposed to work with Vista. Did you right-click on the install file and run as administrator?

If you can not get it to work there is a work around.

First, download and install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software. After installation, plug in your BlackBerry and start up the software for the first time. Open the Options -> Connection Settings… window and set the connection to USB. Plug in the BlackBerry, enter your password if applicable, and Vista will find the device and install a “standard modem”.
Open the Control Panel
Network and Internet
Connect to a network
Set up a connection or network
Set up a dial-up connection
Select Standard Modem
Dial-up phone number is #777
Connect.

Everything should work, some have reported faster speeds using this method over the Smartview program.

I am having 64 gb kingston pen drive.
But after formatting from command promt its file system is RAW an i cannot use the drive now.
Beacuse it is showing properties as 0 bytes.
The drive cannot be formatted.
