Replacing front cable on comfort 050 Shimano gears
SOURCE: problem with top/low adjustment screws on shimano gears
Forget the screws as those are more for fine tuning once you are close to having it set correctly. Where the shift cable connects to the shifter on the bars you will typically find an adjustment knob (note that you may have the same type of adjustment knob where the cable meets the gear shift mechanism also) which the cable rides in. You will make much larger jumps in adjustment when using this method as opposed to using the screws located on the gear changing mechanism. Best of luck to you on the fix!!

Try this first:
Shift into the small ring and release the cable. Pull it tight (with pliers) and re-tighten the cable. It should shift now. If it doesn't, the solution is a little time consuming, so i apologize in advance.
First,
flip your bike onto the bars and saddle. Now shift into the small
chainring and your lowest cassette cog (the largest in number of
teeth). Release the cable from the front derailleur and set the
adjustment knob for the front derailleur to its center point. You
should find it on your shifter. Now adjust the "L" setting on the
derailleur while turning the crank so that its stop sets it in a
position where it just skims the chain but does not touch it. Now pull
the cable taut and re-clamp the cable. Shift into the middle ring and
shift the rear derailleur to its highest and lowest gears, making sure
the chain does not rub the front derailleur. If it does rub (it will be
in either the lowest or highest cog on the cassette), adjust the front
derailleur by way of the adjustment knob to clear the rub. Then shift
into the big ring and you should have no problem. Set the "H" stop if
necessary.

Here is a link to a tech sheet for a Shimano Deore rear derailleur. It is not your exact one, but all Shimano derailleurs are more or less the same. Make sure you have thoroughly cleaned your drivetrain with a degreaser (like Simple Green) and a brush to clear all grease and debris before making adjustments. The second step is to shift into your highest gear (the smalles cog) and then release the cable in the derailleur, pull taut and retighten it. Check again to make sure you can not get into low gear, because it may have been a problem with cable tension, which you just fixed. If it still does not, then adjust the "L" setting on the derailleur so that the jockey wheel on the derailleur will move just ever so slightly past the last cog on the cassette when the shifter is fully engaged.
Hope this helps,
matt

It is apparently critical for the success of the pairing operation that initial power-up of the component to be paired be done cleanly, with little or no contact bounce when the battery is inserted. Since this is done with low power high frequency radio signals, interference and reflections can be an issue. If you have extraneous gear such as metal water bottle brackets mounted near the system controller / battery pack, remove it for this operation. Do not let anyone play with R/C toys within 30 feet while you are doing the pairing, and turn off Bluetooth devices to be really sure.
The graphics shown in the SC-7900 supplemental manual imply that the right and left shift levers are separate devices, but they are powered from the same battery and connected to the system at a single point. While Shimano's online documentation on this is rather sparse, the Di2 7900 system description says the system logic and communication circuits are inside the front derailleur. I do not expect step 6 will be needed. If you go through step 6 and it doesn't work you may need to disconnect the shift levers individually and try again. Once a device is paired, you should not have to disconnect it or remove power from it to continue the process with other devices.
If none of this works to pair your shifting system with the SC-7900, then the wireless circuitry in the shift system is defective (as I mentioned previously, this is probably in the front derailleur). Even if it is out of warranty, you may be able to get a warranty replacement since it is a newly discovered defect that could have existed from the factory. You will probably have to talk directly to the Shimano service department for this.
