SOURCE: ice forms on the bottom of the freezer
I fixed mine. There is a self-defrost drain at the back of the freezer, about one third from bottom. This ices up, but ours iced and also got clogged. First I defrosted, then used a turkery baster to "shoot" one teaspoon of baking soda mixed with a cup of boiling water into the drain. In the past this is what worked. But not this time. We used 409, soap, anything else to try to unclog the drain. It took all afternoon but finally I noticed it seemed to be working. I will know in a week if the drain is actually unclogged.

i had the same problem and i replaced the defrost heater and it worked fine for about one month but now having the same issue. Most of the time from what I have heard it is the defrost heater (about $60 part). I might have another issue going on with mine like a defrost thermostat. Your defrost heater is right under the panel on the inside of the freezer section. remove white panel on back side of freezer section and remove two screws and two wires and replace it and you should be fine.

Hi Rachel,
Opened 3-10 times per day, per week, per month?
There is only one possible source of these ice crystals -- moisture precipitating from the air (condensate) -- this air is coming from outside the freezer. It's either getting in when the freezer is opened or coming in around the gasket.
You might try a very thin coat of vaseline on the gasket to get a better seal.
