if your printer is printing poor quality photos i would recommend changing out the ink cartridges and probably getting a new hd printer

You do not say what exact model of printer you are using so any answer will be generic rather than specific.

Poor colour and black tone can be as a result of various factors:
1. Poor paper quality that you are printing on.
2. Poor ink or toner quality being used.
3. Use of Ink / Toner saving modes or software.
4. Worn or damaged printer components such as the fuser roll on a laser printer and other similar consumables with a limited page use life.
5. Poor quality content being printed, i.e. low quality images being printed at too high a print resolution.

The print quality of dat matrix printers depends upon the printer ribbon. If the ribbon is old or worn out then the print will be very light. In this case replace the ribbon.
Dot matrix printers are very old technology and I suggest you get a Inkjet printer or a laser printer.
Dot matrix printers cannot match the print quality of Inkjet and laser printers.

Is this an original DEll toner, or a remanufactured one?
Sometimes a remanufactured cartridge can need a few pages printed before the new toner 'works ' through the internal mechanisms. Not all remaufacturers actually test (all) of their cartridges. The better ones test 100%, to ensure a quality product.

It could be that the wrong toner has been used in the cartridge (not all toner is the same - by a long way).

It could be that the drum has NOT been replaced. These can be light damaged and result in a poor print quality. An original drum is purple in colour. Aftermarket drums are blue/green.

Download zebra setup utility and use it to configure print quality.

The last time I saw that I had to replace the HV power supply and prints went back to normal...If it's out of warranty it'll cost around $150.00

Then work through this article and see here to diagnose the printing problem. Make sure the print quality is set for photos in the print preferences or properties.
You might try cleaning the cartridge contacts as described here.
Make sure you are using a good quality paper, that it is feeding correctly,

Hav you replaced with original cartridges or 3rd party/refilled ones? This is a common problem when using generic/refilled cartridges. Let me know that first..

When you say poor quality, do you mean faded printouts, or broken print? Kindly explain in detail, so I can assist you further.

Most likely the fuser has lost part of the teflon from the heat roller. Having said that, the first step in any print quality issues is to change the toner cartridge. good luck!
