My ge universal remote setup button does not do anything. help?

It turns out that my son dropped the remote. New batteries installed. It will NOT function. I have tried the reset options in the instructions to no avail. The setup button does nothing nor does it light up. Is this permanently broken or can I fix this somehow?

SOURCE: Ge remote control #24921

You can find the remote control codes for different brands of devices from
http://www.hifi-remote.com/ofa/codes-tv.shtml#tv

If none of the codes work then we have two other solutions:

1. Searching For Your Code

If you have tried all of the set-up codes for your brand of equipment ,or your brand is not listed, and you are still not able to get the unit to respond, try the following procedure to search for your code.
If you don't find a code that works, the remote will flash four times when you reach the end of all the codes for this device type.

  1. PRESS the button for the device you want to program, (TV, VCR, CABLE, etc.), then RELEASE.
  2. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice, then RELEASE.
  3. ENTER 9-9-1 (two blinks on the remote)
  4. ALTERNATE slowly between the POWER key and the DEVICE (TV, VCR, CABLE, etc.) button until your device turns off. (On VCR, LD, and CD players use PLAY instead of POWER)
Make sure that the remote is pointed at your device during the search, You may have to press this sequences of buttons up to 100 times to search the entire library of codes.
  5. When your device turns OFF, PRESS the SETUP button and RELEASE it to lock in the code for your device.

2. Learn the buttons from the original

Line up your original remote and the head-to-head before completing the following steps.
  1. PRESS and HOLD the SETUP button until the red LED flashes twice.
  2. PRESS 9 - 7 - 5, the red LED will flash twice.
  3. PRESS the DEVICE key where you wish to learn the function. The next 3 steps must be completed within 10 seconds.
  4. PRESS the button that will receive the learned function, the LED will flash rapidly.
  5. PRESS the button on the original remote to be learned.

Now you can repeat steps 3 through 5 to learn other functions onto other keys or press and hold SETUP until the Cinema's red light flashes twice to lock in your new feature. (If the red light does not blink twice, stop and repeat steps through 6).
To test the new feature, press and release the device key in which the new feature was learned followed by the key on which the feature was learned

Need a code for zenith/vcr combo.

Program a GE Universal Remote Using Code Search Make sure the device for which you want to program the remote is turned on, and that the GE universal remote has good working batteries in it. Batteries that are weak may keep the universal remote from being programmed. Press and hold the Setup or Code Search button. Again, the name of the button will vary between GE universal remote models. Once the indicator light is lit, you can stop pressing the button. Press the button with the name of the device for which you want to program the GE universal remote (such as TV or DVD) and release it immediately. The indicator light should flash a time or two and then simply stay lit. Now all you have to do is point the GE universal remote at the device you selected, press the Power button and release it. The catch is that if the device does not turn off, you must wait at least two seconds and try again. The GE universal remote will attempt to program the right code for the device, cycling through all of its built-in codes. This can take up to 250 attempts. When the universal remote (finally) catches the right code and is programmed, the device will power off. Once this happens, press the Enter or Save button on the GE remote to complete the programming process. and for free

I have lost the ge universal remote guide for the codes its a ge sku 24914 universal remote i need the codes to program the remote

These are the steps on how to program your GE Universal Remote Control without the list of codes.

1. Manually turn on the device to be
controlled.

2. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.

3. Press and quickly release the desired device button. The red indicator blinks off once.

4. Press the ON•OFF button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device to be controlled turns off. The red indicator blinks off with each button press.

Note: Code Search starts from the currently stored four digit number under that mode. Sometimes the
first code that “works” with your device may only
allow limited functionality (e.g. the MENU button
might not work). There may be a code that performs
more functions. Continue the code search process
until the best code is found.

5. Press and release ENTER to install the code.

Trouble programming Universal Remote to a DTV Converter Box...

Not a complete solution, but, around the last page (pg. 14) of your converter box manual there are codes listed for universal remotes. I happen to have a Philips remote that is listed. My code to control my dtv box is 0354. It appears that they have all codes listed for all Radioshack model universal remotes. I would suggest getting a Radioshack remote for Your "Digital Stream" (Radioshack) dtv box...
