Any time a vehicle has a hydraulic tensioner it should be replaced. most parts stores have a timing belt replacement kit. some have the idler pullies and the tensioner and belt. you should replace the water pump while you are in their.

Timing belt timing marks

Instructions
  1. Remove the Timing Belt 3.0 V6
    • Place the Voyager's engine in the TDC no. 1 position for cylinder firing in order to get proper alignment. Disconnect the negative cable on the battery.
    • 2Take off the accessory drive belts, and take out engine mount insulator, located in the engine support bracket. Detach the engine support bracket and take off the torsional damper and crankshaft pulleys. This ensures easier access to the timing belt.

    • 3. Locate the 2- to 3-inch wide timing belt in the front of the engine. Remove the cover of the timing belt.
    • 4Mark the course of rotation on the belt as a reference if you plan to reinstall it. Slacken the timing belt torsioner bolt and take off the timing belt. Detach the timing belt torsioner if needed.
    • 5Remove the crankshaft sprocket and the flange shield of the crankshaft sprocket. Secure the camshaft sprocket using a spanner tool MB990775, or something similar, and take off the bolt and washer to the camshaft sprocket.
    Install the Timing Belt
    • 6Use the retaining washer and bolt to fit the camshaft sprocket onto the camshaft. Utilize the spanner tool MB990775 and tighten the bolt. Mount the crankshaft sprocket and put on the timing belt torsioner and tensioner spring if it was removed. Hook the higher end of the spring to the water pump pin and bottom end to the tensioner bracket with the hook facing out.
    • 7Rotate the timing belt tensioner in a counterclockwise turn and tighten the bolt to momentarily hold it in place. Turn the crankshaft sprocket until the timing mark lines up with the timing mark on the oil pump timing mark. Revolve the back camshaft sprocket so that its timing mark lines up with the generator bracket timing mark. Turn the radiator side camshaft sprocket so that the mark aligns with the inner timing belt cover mark.
    • 8Connect the timing belt onto the Voyager's crankshaft sprocket, keeping the belt tight on the side of tension. Install the belt in the same rotational direction if using the original timing belt. Put the timing belt on the radiator side of the camshaft sprocket, and place the belt underneath the water pump pulley first, and follow that by putting it over the back camshaft sprocket and the tensioner.
    • 9Create tension on the side of the timing belt and correctly line up all timing marks. Put the crankshaft sprocket flange into place and loosen the tensioner bolt to allow the tensioner spring to put tension on the belt. Turn the crankshaft two clockwise turns. Line up the timing marks and tighten the tensioner bolt. Put on the timing belt cover and engine support bracket.
    • 10Put the engine mount insulator, crankshaft pulleys and torsional damper into place. Mount the accessory drive belts, connect the negative battery cable and check that the engine runs properly.

When do I replace the 2002 nissan quest timing belt?

Replace your timing belt before this happens. I was very lucky. The tensioner was making noise “for quite a while I must admit”. I finally got around to replacing it and this is what I found. I highly recommend you don’t wait this long.

Water pump/timing belt on 02 volvo s60 turbo diagram

5-Cylinder Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:

    Negative battery cable Engine stabilizer brace Servo reservoir Expansion tank Accessory drive belt Front timing belt cover Right front wheel Inner fender liner
  3. Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the markings on the crankshaft and camshaft pulley correspond.
  4. Turn the crankshaft a further 1/4 turn clockwise and then back again until the markings correspond.
  5. Remove the upper timing belt cover.
  6. Slacken off the belt tensioner center bolt slightly.
  7. Hold the center bolt still and turn the eccentric on the tensioner clockwise to 10 o'clock.
  8. Remove the vibration damper using Volvo counterhold 999 5433 or equivalent.
  9. Remove the camshaft belt.

To install:
  1. Turn all the pulleys listening for bearing noise. Check to see that the contact surfaces are clean and smooth. If the tensioner pulley lever or idler is seized, replace it.
  2. If replacing with a new idler pulley, tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (24 Nm).
  3. If replacing tension pulley, screw into place using the center bolt by hand. Ensure that the tensioner fork is centered over the cylinder block rib. Ensure that the Allen hole on the eccentric is at "10 o'clock".
  4. Install the camshaft belt over pulley wheel on the crankshaft.
  5. Install the vibration damper and tighten the center nut to 133 ft. lbs. (180 Nm).
  6. Install the timing belt in the following order:
    1. Around the crankshaft sprocket.
    2. Around the right idler pulley
    3. Around the camshaft sprockets
    4. Around the water pump
    5. Onto the tensioner pulley

  7. Carefully turn the crankshaft clockwise until the timing belt is tensioned. The belt must be tensioned between the intake camshaft pulley, the idler pulley and the crankshaft
  8. Hold the belt tensioner center bolt secure. Turn the belt tensioner eccentric counter-clockwise until the tensioner indicator passes the marked position.
  9. Then turn the belt tensioner eccentric back so that the indicator reaches the marked position in the center of the window and tighten the center bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm).
  10. Press the belt to check that the indicator on the tensioner moves easily.
  11. Install or connect the following:

    Front timing belt cover and tighten to 9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm) Upper timing belt cover Accessory drive belt Servo reservoir Expansion tank Engine stabilizer brace. Tighten the bolts at the suspension turrets to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm). Tighten the engine bracket bolt to 59 ft. lbs. (80 Nm). Inner fender liner Front wheel Negative battery cable

Timing belt set-up for a 2000 Seat Inca 1.9 SDi

1. Align the crankshaft timing marks on the flywheel / gearbox

16. Fit the vacuum pump

21. Refit the inlet air manifold hoses
22. Check the injection timing

Torque settings:
Camshaft gearwheel: 45 Nm
Tensioner pulley: 20 Nm

Need to know timing marks

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Loosen power steering lock bolts and nuts accordingly and remove tension from power steering (P/S) and/or air conditioning (A/C) compressor drive belt.
3. Remove P/S and/or A/C drive belt.
4. Loosen generator mounting bolts and adjusting bolt.
5. Remove generator bolts.
6. Remove water pump pulley.
7. Remove crankshaft pulley.
8. Remove upper and lower timing belt covers.
9. Turn crankshaft so that timing mark on timing belt pulley is aligned with timing mark on engine.
10. Check that "I" mark on intake camshaft pulley is aligned with mark on seal plate and "E" mark on exhaust camshaft pulley is aligned with mark on seal plate.
Do not move camshaft or crankshaft once timing marks have been correctly positioned.
11. Loosen tensioner pulley lock bolt.
12. Protect timing belt with a rag.
13. Remove tensioner pulley.
14. Remove timing belt. Mark the direction of timing belt rotation (on the timing belt) for proper reinstallation.

INSTALLATION
1. Install tensioner pulley. Replace tensioner spring whenever timing belt is replaced.
2. Pull tensioner pulley to its furthest point and tighten lock bolt.
3. Check that timing mark on timing belt pulley is aligned with timing mark on engine.
4. Check that "I" mark on intake camshaft pulley is aligned with mark on seal plate and "E" mark on exhaust camshaft pulley is aligned with mark on seal plate.
If existing timing belt is being reused, install belt in proper rotation direction marked prior to removal.
5. Install timing belt onto timing belt pulley first, then idler pulley, exhaust camshaft pulley, intake camshaft pulley, and tensioner pulley in that order.
6. Check that there is no looseness in belt between idler pulley and exhaust camshaft pulley or between intake and exhaust camshaft pulleys.
7. Loosen tensioner pulley lock bolt and allow tensioner spring to apply tension to timing belt.
Do not add additional tension.
8. Tighten tensioner pulley lock bolt to specified torque.
Tightening torque:28~38 lb-ft (38~51 N·m, 3.9~5.2 kg-m)
9. Rotate crankshaft two full revolutions (clockwise only) and align timing mark on timing belt pulley with timing mark on engine block.
10. Check that "I" mark on intake camshaft pulley and "E" mark on exhaust camshaft pulley are aligned with marks on seal plate.
11. If they are not aligned, remove timing belt and start process from tensioner installation.
12. Measure timing belt deflection by applying moderate pressure midway between camshaft pulleys. If deflection is not correct, repeat from tensioner installation.
Deflection pressure:22 Ib. (98 N, 10 kg)Deflection:0.39~0.50 in. (11~13 mm)
13. Install lower and upper timing belt covers in that order.
Tightening torque:5.8~8.0 Ib-ft (7.9~10.7 N·m, 0.8~1.1 kg-m)
14. Install timing belt guide plate and crankshaft pulley.
Tightening torque:9.0~12.6 lb-ft (12.3~17.2 N·m, 1.3~1.8 kg-m)
15. Install water pump pulley.
Tightening torque:9.0~12.6 lb-ft (12.3~17.2 N·m, 1.3~1.8 kg-m)
16. Install generator belt and adjust the tension.
17. Install P/S and/or A/C drive belt and adjust the tension.
18. Connect negative battery cable.

INSPECTION
Never forcefully twist, turn inside out or bend timing belt. Do not allow oil or grease to come in contact with timing belt.
1. Replace timing belt if it is contaminated with oil or grease.
2. Check timing belt for uneven wear, fraying, peeling, cracking and hardening. Replace timing belt as necessary.
3. Bend timing belt into a "U" shape as shown in figure. Distance "A" must be at least 1.0 in (25 mm).
4. Inspect both idler pulley and tensioner pulley for uneven wear and smooth bearing operation.
5. Inspect camshaft pulleys and timing belt pulley for broken teeth or damage.
Replace any component that shows damage, excessive wear, or that appears prone to a possible failure.

REMOVAL

CAUTION: The following procedure can only be used when the camshaft sprockets HAVE NOT BEEN LOOSENED or removed from the camshafts. Refer to Camshaft Gear/Sprocket and Timing Components, if sprocket(s) or camshaft(s) have been loosened or removed.

CAUTION: The 3.2/3.5L are NOT freewheeling engines. Therefore, care should be taken not to rotate the camshafts or crankshaft with the timing belt removed.

  1. Disconnect negative cable from remote jumper terminal.
  2. Remove upper radiator crossmember.
  3. Disconnect fan module electrical connector.
  4. Remove cooling fan module and accessory drive belts.
  5. Remove crankshaft damper and front timing belt covers.
  6. Mark belt running direction, if timing belt is to be reused.
CAUTION: When aligning timing marks, always rotate engine by turning the crankshaft. Failure to do so will result in valve and/or piston damage.

  1. Rotate engine clockwise until crankshaft mark aligns with the TDC mark on oil pump housing and the camshaft sprocket timing marks are between the marks on the rear covers (Fig. 94).
CAUTION: Align the camshaft sprockets between the marks on rear belt covers before timing belt removal or damage to valve and/or pistons could occur.

  1. Using a ink or paint marker; mark the exact position of the camshaft sprocket timing mark relative to the two timing marks on the rear timing cover.
NOTE: When timing belt tensioner is removed from engine, always store in the vertical (plunger facing upward) position

  1. Remove the timing belt tensioner (Fig. 95) and remove timing belt.
TIMING BELT TENSIONER

  1. When tensioner is removed from the engine it is necessary to compress the plunger into the tensioner body.
CAUTION: Compress the tensioner slowly, as damage to tensioner could result.

  1. Place the tensioner into a vise and SLOWLY compress the plunger (Fig. 96). Total bleed down of tensioner should take about 5 minutes.
CAUTION: Index the tensioner in the vise the same way it is installed on the engine. This is to ensure proper pin orientation when tensioner is installed on the engine.

  1. When plunger is compressed into the tensioner body install a pin through the body and plunger to retain plunger in place until tensioner is installed.
NOTE: When timing belt tensioner is removed from engine, always store in the vertical (plunger facing upward) position.

INSTALLATION

CAUTION: This procedure can only be used when the camshaft sprockets HAVE NOT BEEN LOOSENED or removed from the camshafts.

CAUTION: If camshafts have moved from the timing marks, always rotate camshaft towards the direction nearest to the timing marks (DO NOT TURN CAMSHAFTS A FULL REVOLUTION OR DAMAGE to valves and/or pistons could result).

  1. Align the crankshaft sprocket with the TDC mark on oil pump cover (Fig. 97).
  2. Align the camshaft sprockets (to reference mark made upon removal) between the marks on the rear covers (Fig. 94).
  3. Install the timing belt starting at the crankshaft sprocket going in a counterclockwise direction (Fig. 97). Install the belt around the last sprocket. Maintain tension on the belt as it is positioned around the tensioner pulley.
  4. Holding the tensioner pulley against the belt, Install the tensioner into the housing and tighten to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.) . Each camshaft sprocket mark should still fall between the cover marks.
  5. When tensioner is in place pull retaining pin to allow the tensioner to extend to the pulley bracket.
  6. Rotate crankshaft sprocket 2 revolutions and check the timing marks on the camshafts and crankshaft. The marks should line up within their respective locations (Fig. 97). If marks do not line up, repeat procedure.
  7. Install timing belt covers and crankshaft damper.
  8. Install accessory drive belts and cooling fan module.
  9. Install upper radiator crossmember.
  10. Connect negative cable to remote jumper terminal.
  11. Start engine and allow to idle for approximately 1 minute. If a noise is present from the timing belt/tensioner, air has possibly entered the tensioner.
    1. To remove air from tensioner; using a DRB III, operate the engine at speed of 1600-2000 RPM for 10 minutes. This will purge air from tensioner.
NOTE: If air is present, the timing belt tensioner will be soft and may generate noise. This noise should disappear after no more than 15 minutes of engine running time.

Timing Belt Removal & Installation 3.0L Engine To Remove:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the accessory drive belts. Remove the engine mount insulator from the engine support bracket.
  3. Remove the engine support bracket. Remove the crankshaft pulleys and torsional damper. Remove the timing belt covers.
  4. Rotate the crankshaft until the sprocket timing marks are aligned. The crankshaft sprocket timing mark should align with the oil pump timing mark. The rear camshaft sprocket timing mark should align with the generator bracket timing mark and the front camshaft sprocket timing mark should align with the inner timing belt cover timing mark.
  5. If the belt is to be reused, mark the direction of rotation on the belt for installation reference. Mark the direction of travel for the timing belt for correct installation 86723p72.jpg
  6. Loosen the timing belt tensioner bolt and remove the timing belt.
  7. If necessary, remove the timing belt tensioner. Turn the center tensioner pulley bolt until the timing belt has enough slack . . . 86723p73.jpg

  8. Remove the crankshaft sprocket flange shield and crankshaft sprocket.
  9. Hold the camshaft sprocket using spanner tool MB990775 or equivalent, and remove the camshaft sprocket bolt and washer. Remove the camshaft sprocket.
To Install:
  1. Install the camshaft sprocket on the camshaft with the retaining bolt and washer. Hold the camshaft sprocket using spanner tool MB990775 or equivalent, and tighten the bolt to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm).
  2. Install the crankshaft sprocket.
  3. If removed, install the timing belt tensioner and tensioner spring. Hook the spring upper end to the water pump pin and the lower end to the tensioner bracket with the hook out.
  4. Turn the timing belt tensioner counterclockwise full travel in the adjustment slot and tighten the bolt to temporarily hold it in this position.
  5. Rotate the crankshaft sprocket until its timing mark is aligned with the oil pump timing mark.
  6. Rotate the rear camshaft sprocket until its timing mark is aligned with the timing mark on the generator bracket.
  7. Rotate the front (radiator side) camshaft sprocket until its mark is aligned with the timing mark on the inner timing belt cover.
  8. Install the timing belt on the crankshaft sprocket while keeping the belt tight on the tension side. NOTE: If the original belt is being reused, be sure to install it in the same rotational direction.
  9. Position the timing belt over the front camshaft sprocket (radiator side). Next, position the belt under the water pump pulley, then over the rear camshaft sprocket and finally over the tensioner. CAUTION
    If any binding is felt when adjusting the timing belt tension by turning the crankshaft, STOP turning the engine, because the pistons may be hitting the valves.

  10. Apply rotating force in the opposite direction to the front camshaft sprocket (radiator side) to create tension on the timing belt tension side. Check that all timing marks are aligned.
  11. Install the crankshaft sprocket flange.
  12. Loosen the tensioner bolt and allow the tensioner spring to tension the belt.
  13. Rotate the crankshaft two full turns in a clockwise direction. Turn the crankshaft smoothly and in a clockwise direction only.
  14. Again line up the timing marks. If all marks are aligned, tighten the tensioner bolt to 250 in. lbs. (28 Nm). Otherwise repeat the installation procedure.
  15. Install the timing belt covers. Install the engine support bracket. Tighten the support bracket mounting bolts to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm).
  16. Install the engine mount insulator, torsional damper and crankshaft pulleys. Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to 112 ft. lbs. (151 Nm).
  17. Install the accessory drive belts.
  18. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  19. Run the engine and check for proper operation.

The 2.0L engine is an interference motor. Extending the replacement interval could lead to the belt breaking and severe and costly engine damage. Care must be taken if rotating the crankshaft or camshafts with the belt off, if resistance is felt, do not force them to turn.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the timing belt covers as outlined in this Section.
  3. Remove the valve cover.
  4. Place Camshaft Alignment Timing Tool T94P-6256-CH or equivalent, into the slots of both camshafts at the rear of the cylinder head to lock the camshafts into position. NOTE: If the special tool is unavailable, a suitable length and width straight edge can be used to align the camshafts.
  5. Loosen the camshaft timing belt tensioner pulley retaining bolt and move the tensioner pulley to relieve the tension on the timing belt.
  6. Temporarily tighten the tensioner in this position. NOTE: If the timing belt is to be reused, mark the belt for the direction of rotation before removing to prevent premature wear or failure.
  7. Remove the timing belt.
  8. If required, remove the sprockets as follows:
    1. Hold the camshaft with an appropriate camshaft sprocket holding tool.
    2. Loosen and remove the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt.
    3. Remove the sprocket from the camshaft.
    4. Repeat the procedure for the 2nd camshaft sprocket.
    5. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.
  9. Slide the crankshaft sprocket onto the crankshaft aligning the key-way.
  10. Align the camshafts using the Camshaft Alignment Timing Tool T94P-6256-CH. NOTE: If the special tool is unavailable, a suitable length and width straight edge can be used to align the camshafts.
  11. Reinstall the sprockets onto the camshafts and loosely install the camshaft retaining bolts.
  12. Tighten the camshaft sprocket retaining bolts to 47–53 ft. lbs. (64–72 Nm) .
  13. Loosely install the crankshaft pulley to verify that the engine is at TDC. Realign the marks if they have moved.
  14. Verify that the camshafts are aligned. NOTE: It is recommended to purchase a tensioner spring and retaining bolt through the dealer parts to apply the proper tension for used or new belt installations. The spring is bolted to the tensioner assembly and becomes a part of the engine. Ignore this notice if the tensioner spring is already installed.
  15. Reinstall the retaining bolt (W700001-S309) into the hole provided in the cylinder block and place the tensioner spring (6L277) between the bolt and the camshaft timing belt tensioner pulley.
  16. Tighten the retainer bolt to 71–97 inch lbs. (8–11 Nm) .
  17. Remove the crankshaft pulley and install the timing belt onto the crankshaft sprocket, then onto the camshaft sprockets working in a counterclockwise direction.
  18. Tighten the camshaft sprocket retaining bolts to 47–53 ft. lbs. (64–72 Nm) .
  19. Be sure that the span of the camshaft timing belt between the crankshaft sprocket and the exhaust camshaft sprocket is not loose.
  20. Be sure that the camshaft timing belt is securely aligned on all sprockets.
  21. Reinstall the lower timing belt cover and tighten the retaining bolts to 53–71 inch lbs. (6–8 Nm) .
  22. Apply silicone sealer to the key-way of the crankshaft pulley and install. Tighten the retaining bolt to 81–89 ft. lbs. (110–120 Nm) .
  23. Inspect the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley to verify that the engine is still at TDC.
  24. Loosen the camshaft timing belt tensioner pulley retaining bolt and allow the tensioner spring attached to the pulley to draw the tensioner pulley against the camshaft timing belt.
  25. Remove the camshaft alignment timing tool from the camshafts at the rear of the engine.
  26. Turn the crankshaft two revolutions in a clockwise direction.
  27. Tighten the camshaft timing belt tensioner pulley retaining bolt to 26–30 ft. lbs. (35–40 Nm) .
  28. Recheck that the crankshaft timing mark is at TDC for the No. 1 piston, and that both camshafts are in alignment using the camshaft alignment timing tool. NOTE: A slight adjustment of the camshafts to allow the insertion of the camshaft alignment timing tool is permissible as long as the crankshaft stays at the TDC location.
  29. An appropriate camshaft sprocket holding tool can be used to move the camshaft sprocket (s) if a slight adjustment is required.
  30. If a camshaft is not properly aligned, perform the following procedure:
    1. Loosen the retaining bolt securing the sprocket to the camshaft while holding the camshaft sprocket from turning with the sprocket holding tool.
    2. Turn the camshaft until the camshaft alignment timing tool can be installed.
    3. Verify that the crankshaft timing mark is at TDC for the No. 1 cylinder.
    4. While holding the camshaft sprocket with the camshaft sprocket holding tool, tighten the retaining bolt to 47–53 ft. lbs. (64–72 Nm) .
    5. Remove the tool and rotate the crankshaft two revolutions (clockwise) .
    6. Verify that the camshafts are aligned and that the crankshaft is at TDC for the No. 1 cylinder.
  31. Install the valve cover.
  32. Install the timing belt covers.

Both 7afe and 4afe (engines for 93-97 Corollas) are non-interference engines. It's highly unlikely there is any damage to the valves.

Removal
  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Section 03-03 for the procedure.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301) .
  1. Remove the generator drive belt, water pump and power steering pump drive belt, and the A/C compressor drive belt (if equipped). Refer to Section 03-05 for the removal procedure.
  1. If equipped, remove the three A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley bolts and the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley.
  1. Remove the upper radiator hose bracket bolt.
  1. Loosen the two upper radiator hose clamps and remove the radiator hose bracket bolt. Remove the upper radiator hose (8260) and the upper radiator hose bracket from the vehicle.
  1. Remove the water bypass hose (8597) from between the thermostat housing and the water hose connection (8592) .
  1. Remove the main wiring harness from the upper engine front cover (6019) .
  1. Remove the eight upper engine front cover bolts and the upper engine front cover .
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  1. Remove the RH front wheel and tire assembly.
  1. Remove the four RH outer engine and transmission splash shield bolts and two screws and remove the RH outer engine and transmission splash shield (6775) .
  1. Use Strap Wrench 303-D055 (D85L-6000-A) or equivalent to hold the water pump pulley (8509) while removing the four water pump pulley bolts.
  1. Remove the water pump pulley from the water pump (8501) .
  1. Remove the crankshaft pulley (6312) . Refer to the procedure in this section.
  1. Remove the five lower engine front cover bolts and the lower engine front cover .
  2. Ensure that the timing marks between the crankshaft sprocket (6306) and the oil pump housing line up.
  3. NOTE: The directional arrow is necessary to ensure that the timing chain/belt (6268) can be reinstalled in the same direction.
  4. Loosen the timing chain/belt tensioner nut.
  5. Remove the timing chain/belt .

  6. Installation
    NOTE: Ensure that the timing marks on the camshaft sprockets (6256) and the seal plate are properly aligned. Ensure that the timing marks on the crankshaft sprocket and the oil pump housing are still aligned. NOTE: A new timing chain/belt has three white timing marks that indicate the correct timing positions of the camshafts (6250) and the crankshaft (6303) . These marks will help ensure that the engine (6007) is timed properly. When the engine is properly timed each white timing mark on the timing chain/belt will be aligned with the corresponding camshaft and crankshaft timing mark on the sprocket. Because the white timing marks are not evenly spaced you will need to refer to the following illustration for proper timing chain/belt placement. There should be 40 timing belt teeth between the timing marks of the front and rear camshaft sprockets and 43 teeth between the timing mark on the front camshaft sprocket and the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket .

    NOTE: Verify that the camshaft timing marks are aligned with the timing marks on the seal plate, and that the crankshaft sprocket timing mark is aligned with the timing mark on the oil pump (6600) .

    Install the timing chain/belt starting at the crankshaft sprocket and moving around to the camshaft sprocket following a counterclockwise path. Do not allow any slack in the timing chain/belt between the timing sprockets. After all of the timing marks are matched up with the timing chain/belt installed, slip the timing chain/belt onto the timing chain/belt tensioner .
