How do I replace the needle/clamp bar on a Brother ULT 2001?

Need service manual or instructions on replacing the needle/clamp bar. Shop said it is the only way to treat the recurring problem. I am handy and would love to keep from putting so many $$ in repair of an older machine. Thanks!!

I have a parts manual & a service manual saved on my pc for the 970 that I can send you when I get home in a couple of weeks. Would that help? It gives the information to do tests etc.
I am also on the Yahoo MK site. That may be a better place to share as I am not sure about this site.

SOURCE: needle clamp fell off. got a new one, but need

I have an XL6452 and the same problem. I figured out that you can use a tiny screw driver (or an allen wrench might work). I tried using the screw that tightens the needle but it didn't seem to work. The screw looks like it just a hole. It took a lot of turns to get it loose enough so you can put it on. You will see it come out.
Once you get it on you can tighten it.

SOURCE: I have a Necchi Supernova Julia sewing machine, and unfortunately

I had what I thought was the same problem with my Necchi Supernova Julia 534. Turns out it was the needles. Buy a new package that you know are right and try them.

Can the brother pacesetter ult 2002d floppy drive be replaced with usb

Julie, You should be able to have that on-board floppy drive repaired. USB is from a computer only to send a design to the machine.

Why does my bobbin thread tangle around my bobbin plate

try changing the needle
Correct needle insertion is mandatory for proper use of your sewing machine.
Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the needle clamp screw to remove the old needle.
Place the new needle in the needle clamp with the flat side of the needle facing the back, (round needle, the groove in the needle should face away from the shaft).
Push the needle all the way up as far as it will go. Then tighten the needle clamp screw.

try rethreading the machine top

Zigzag stitch problems on brothers pc-420 sewing machine

Sewing machine skips stitches
1.needle inserted incorrectly
flat side of the needle faces the shaft
round needle
groove of needle faces away from the shaft

Correct needle insertion is mandatory for proper use
Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the clamp screw to remove the needle.
Place the new needle in the clamp with the flat side of the needle facing the back of the machine.
If round needle--the groove in the needle faces away from the shaft
Push needle all the way up to the stop or as far as it will go.

3.possible bent needle--lay needle on flat surface & roll needle over, if the needle does not roll good -replace
4.blunt needle point--needle makes a popping sound when needle penetrates the fabric--replace needle
5.needle not all the way up in needle holder--loosen needle clamp screw & push the needle up until it stops then tighten screw
6.incorrect threading--one step missed in sequence of threading can cause machine to skip stitches
7.wrong needle in machine--check instruction manual--some machines can use a generic needle with no problem
8.size of needle & thread & the fabric are not compatable

I have a Brother XR-65. The needle bar fell out as I was sewing. I need a repair manual or some instruction on how to secure the needle bar in the machine. I have the bar itself and a pin sized piece of...

This was happening to me also - you have to tighten a different screw than the one that holds the needle in.

http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/needle-clamp-screw-brother-ls-2125-sewing-machine.aspx

My husband thought the screw was missing - it is actually a plastic screw with a hole in it for a tiny allen wrench.

You can see it in this picture also

http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/needle-clamp-babylock-brother-xz0001051.aspx

If you look at the photo of the screw I attached, you can zoom in and see it has a hexagonal hole.

It is above the flat head needle clamp screw (the one that holds the needle in)

It is REALLY annoying that this screw is mentioned nowhere in the manual, and the hex allen wrench is not included with the machine.

Kind of an important little detail, considering it holds the needle assembly together... you'd think that they would have told you about it.

Needle will not stay in? i install needle, tighten thumb screw and the needle falls out??why??

Buy a new pack of needles to make sure you do not have defective needles, if that doesnt work get a new thumb screw and if it still doesnt work you need a new needle bar.

Machine skips stitches when sewing thru several layers of fabrics

Is your needle new? The needle needs to be replaced every 8 hours on a regular sewing machine, and the ULT benefits from even more frequent changes. Also try a bigger needle, if you're using a 75/11 move to a 90/14, make sure your needle matches what you're doing, you might not think those little needle tips differ much but they really do.

The manual also mentions if there is to much lint under the needle plate. Keep in mind all sewing machines need the bobbin area cleaned out every time you change the bobbin, but the ULT likes cleaning up down there about twice as often.
