Messenger is is the new version for the Facebook app, they should sync together.
To be honest, I would rather facebook instead. But you need messenger to do what you no longer can with facebook.

That is a problem when the computer has been setup for another individual. The only way to get around this problem is a complete replacement of the operating system from scratch.
If you purchased the computer from a reliable store, I would go there and have them reinstall Windows.
If that is not an option; you must purchase a new copy of Windows 10 (2017-18 Version) usually the Pro version. Make certain you get the Latest Windows and NOT an Old version that needs updates.
Personally, I reformat my hard drives to eliminate pervious data lingering on the hard drive. But you can run the new Install over the old if you need to do so. Once you have the NEW Windows installed, you will be directed to answer questions relating to you and that data is associated with your computer, as was the situation when you got this computer from the store.

The apple store is great help in this area. Apple is a little complicated. Their Tech's are very helpful.

You must contact facebook. And get their help to reset your password. ( To RESET is the important part in this - remember that. ). I do not know much about facebook and their policies. And how they operate. I actually hate that freaking platform. But I see your problem with pictures and memories! If they can not help? Perhaps you can actually get apple to do it.
