It sounds like you are trying to do an upgrade to Windows 7, as normally the operating system comes pre-installed on the Hard Drive (HDD). If the hard drive is not recognised, then it is a hardware fault, take it back it where you bought it!

If that is not possible, check that it is correctly fitted to the hard drive socket, otherwise it is back to a repairer.

You are going to need a boot up partition manager likeon the Ultimate Boot CD (ultimatebootcd.com). Boot to it, go into the partition program, then set the active partition back. Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

I'm trying to download E728 recovery disk but my serial/SNID no isn't recognised

If you have done a Factory Recovery, all your date is gone. You have formatted the HDD. You must start from the beginning, do all your Windows and eMachine updates. In Windows 7 you will find a folder, "Windows.old", after you have finished ALL the updates, do a Search for Windows.old, you will find SOME of your old data. If the Laptop didn't complete the Recovery process, try again. Where did you download the e728 Recovery disk from? Is it a boot disk? A ISO disk? You may have to contact eMachine support, using your Serial Number, order a Factory DVD to return the Laptop to Factory Settings.

My Emachines E250 wont boot up...

I have expirience with this problem and I can say that the best solution is to re-format the partition of the hard drive where you want to install the OS and to install it again. I have managed several time to fix the problem, but after that i had other troubles using the OS.

I deleted too much stuff off my 1g emachine desktop and now it wont even start windows says its missing the boot manager. how can i fix it without a backup disk

Hi ,
Unfortunaly , you can't . You need the install disc . You can retreive existing data by extracting the hdd from your desktop and connect it to a healthy computer . Format the HDD afterwards , put it back into the desktop and launch install disc .

Dv6 Pavillion gives 3F0 error and will not boot up, saying an OS needs to installed on the HHD, but the laptop will not acknowledge that a HDD is installed.

Sounds like you need to start from scratch and format then complete reinstall. You will need to boot from the Windows CD and see if that recognises the HDD. If you have information on that HDD which you need you will have to remove the disk and plug it into another PC as a second hard drive and copy what you need. Cheers from Scott and plz vote

-contact manufacturer and have them diagnose the entire system. and chck for the system warranty and look if there any error code if the error code lead to replacing the hdd, then request to replace the hdd.

Can't start up the laptop as Media test failure

You may have to go back into the bios and see if there is an option to automatically find HDD, or you may have to manually enter them in the Standard Bios Settings. It may be that the old HDD are still in the bios's recognised setup.
