I can't buy a new color ink cartridge today

No, in general all current inkjet printers require the installation of a color cartridge even if you want only black printing.
(If you had an old cartridge "Empty", you might be able to purchase a resetter (Epson) and set you printer to print in black only.)
You can, set up your computer to print in black only by selecting Mono printout in your print set-up.
There are a few Canon printers (Older) that used to print in Black or Color only printing....but no longer available......

Chances are that your print driver is set to print in black and white
while the copier side is automatically detecting that your original is
in color. To have the printer print in color: Select file print, select your printer and hit preferences. Select the Paper/Quality tab and switch from Black and White to Color.

One of the possible reason why you can't print black in white because Epson ink jet printers require all of the ink cartridges to have ink in them in order to print any color, black and white, or grayscale images. More than that Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when users are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged for color printing and prevent air bubbles from entering the color print nozzles which can damage the print head.

A part solution is print/properties/maintenance/ink cartridge settings/select black only.
You do initially have to buy another color cartridge but you won'thave to buy another expensive color cartridge again in the future.

More of a workaround than a real solution--when the error message comes up, press and hold the stop/reset button. After a few seconds, the message will go away and you can continue printing without changing the cartridge.
