ok alot of people wrote a review to other questions similar to this one.. and they forget one key instruction. it has to be the play button on the dvd side of the combo player physically not the remote you press and hold the actual play button on the device for 5 or more seconds and the light will turn off. Then it we play and there will be a picture on the screen.. i hope this helped because that is how i fixed mine.
Sorry, you can't. SANYO in their infinite wisdom, decided not to stock after market spare accessories for their products. I suggest a universal remote but those are limited in function and sometimes hard to use even without a code. The only option is to try and find another combo unit (good used ones can be found on places like craigslist, eBay, etc.) either online or in a local secondhand shop. The price depends on the age and specifications of the unit (at least it may have its original remote in working order which helps a tad).
The only good news about this is this will not cost you a trip to any service centre; you keep your SANYO. According to another forum I read recently, SANYO no longer services their products nor do they offer after market accessories/parts, most agents who are meant to repair such items, won't even touch SANYO.
I bought another DVD player. I found out that all DVD's don't play on all
DVD brands of players. They are cheap enough these days so I decided
it wasn't worth a repair bill. The Sanyo DWM-400 plays many of my
store bought DVD's and not others. I never tried a home made DVD in
it so I don't know how it responds.
