They vary by manufacturer. However, the basic design is a primary cable the goes from the winch through a track to the rear of the unit. The cable has a plug and a push plate in the middle and another at the end. It goes through a pully back into a track toward the front of the unit. The track is a metal, rectangular piece that runs from front to back down the center of the trailer. From the front and rear of the track there will be a total of four pipes, two from the front and two from the rear. The pipe will curve, one toward each corner and will again curve up into each corner of the unit. Inside each pipe is a heavy metal spring that when properly pushed by the main cable will push the roof up. The other system is the older system that has more cables to lift the roof instead of the push springs.
If the trailer has a fresh water holding tank it will have a pump. The older units have a hand pump located next to the sink. There should be a switch located inside the camper, typically on the monitor panel. When you turn that switch on and open the faucet you should hear a vibration noise. If the switch does not illuminate that could be that the circuit is dead and the fuses will need to be checked. The pump is usually located near the sink behind an access panel that will be screwed shut.
