MAYTAG DRYER MDE3757AYW MAKING CLANGING NOISE CONSTANTLY WHILE DRYING ANYTHING FROM TOWELS TO SHEETS, ETC. SOUNDS LIKE PIECES OF METAL LOOSE. NOTHING ABNORMAL IS IN THE DRYER SUCH AS BUTTONS, ETC....

Sounds like the drum roller supports are warn out. Unplug the dryer. Remove the two screws on the lower front panel and tilt the bottom of the front panel out and remove the front panel. Mark and remove the wires going to the door switch. Set the front panel aside. Remove the four screws holding the drum shroud and lift up and out. Set to one side leaving the wires attached. Go to the rear of the dryer and remove the small access panel, Remember how the drum belt is attached to the tension spring loaded pulley and motor pulley. Remove the belt from this assembly and go to the front of the dryer and remove the drum. The drum rollers are located on the rear bulk head of the dryer. Check to make sure that they spin ok or if they are warn out. Replace both rollers. Check the glides on the front shroud. These are teflon glides that the main drum ride on. IF warn, replace glides. Reassemble the dryer in the opposite way in which it was disassembled.
I hope this is of some help.

My Maytag dryer Model DE308 is very noisy. sounds like something is catching or grinding. can I fix this?

most common cause is the failure, or wear of the rollers at the rear,
the drive belt places a lot of torque on the drum, and it has rollers to support this force, in addition to nylon guides as the front has

good roller

worn roller

most dryers access from the front, the front panel and door come off,
here are generic removal instructions

with dryer unplugged examine lower front panel.
If there are two screws at lower corners
  • remove screws
  • swing front panel up from bottom
  • unhook top clips
  • undo door switch wires
  • set panel and door aside
If there are no screws
  • remove llint screeen from top
  • remove 2 screws from under lint screen
  • with putty knife or other blunt blade
push spring clips at front top corners
  • tilt top up
  • remove 1 screw each side 1/3 way from top of dryer
  • tilt front panel down
  • undoor door switch wires
  • set front panel aside
Common to both types
  • reach under drum to belt tensioner, pull tensioner to end of spring travel
  • unhook belt from motor and tensioner
  • withdraw drum forward
  • examine rollers felts nylon guides
replace rollers in pairs if worn
replace nylon glides if worn
replace felts if worn, the back one may wear before the front one,
if the dryer is the open drum type,

When starting, Maytag frontload dryer makes a clunking sound, then quiets down

it is possible, although when my belt went out, it was a squealing sound. it is easy to access your belt. make sure power is off. most maytag dryers can be opened up from the front. first remove bottom panel, this will expose the screws needed to get to the front panel (the one that has the door in it). once this is off, you can inspect the belt with your hands and a flashlight. if you think it is bad, it is best to replace it, they are not that expensive when you but online. also, if you are replacing it, you should check all of the rollers that the drum rotates on. they should be able to spin very easily. if they do not, you might as well replace them also. i found that out the hard way. hope this helps!
