You must remove the inside plastic door liner that surrounds the glass. It just snaps into place so usea small flat blade screw driver to pry it out. You can then replace the door key.
If the spring has detached from the door a the outer door must be replaced.

Can a GE microwave door handle be replaced?

Is this an over-the-range microwave oven? If so, you can usually remove the door by first removing the grill vent above the door (by removing 2 or 3 screws first). With the grill vent removed, you can usually remove the door by opening it and lifting it up off its hinges. Place the door down on a blanket. Using a putty knife, you can pry out the black plastic RF shield (or door gasket). This is the most tricky part, and if you are not experienced, you may break that plastic since it is rather brittle. And if you do break it or crack it, then it must be replaced or the microwave oven will leak microwaves. But once you've got that removed, then you should be able to see and remove the screws that hold the handle to the door. After you replace the handle, it's a simple matter to push the door gasket back into place and re-install the door.

Replacing a handle on a kitchenaide microwave

Hello

Unplug the microwave oven from its power outlet or turn off its circuit breaker. Remove the right fuse from the home fuse-box if your microwave is a built-in model.

Open the microwave door and take the top pin off its pivot bracket. Lift up the door and remove it from the bottom bracket. Lay the microwave door with its front side down on a folded towel. Remove the two choke screws from the door frame using a Phillips head screwdriver.

Remove the choke cover with the knife blade, starting from the microwave door's top right corner. Pry out the bottom and top right sides, leaving the side which houses the door handle in place.

Remove the choke tabs from their slots on the microwave door frame using the knife blade. Continue to work clockwise around your microwave door; remove the choker cover when you get to your handle's side to separate it from your choke.

Remove the two handles with the Phillips screwdriver. Remove the handle from the microwave.

Screw the new handle in the position of the original handle. Lay the choke on the microwave door; set the choke cover right on top of it. Insert the choke tabs into their slots on the microwave door frame using the knife blade.

Secure the two choke screws using a Phillips head screwdriver; set the microwave door back on the bottom bracket. Slide the top pin into the microwave's pivot bracket.

Press the top pin down until it pops securely into place.

Faceplate of door by lower L/H hinge cracked. How do I remove the door to replace the Faceplate?

Front doors are attached inside the microwave at the top and bottom of the oven cavity. Top case has to come off using, likely, security torx screw drivers.
Remove the top hinge.
Remove the bottom hinge.
Door falls off.
Replace the front panel of the door.
Reinsert the lower hinge with the door, close and latch the door.
Holding the door firmly to the microwave, tighten the door hinge. Replace the top hinge.
(On some units, both hinges need to be installed at the same time. Use masking tape to hold the lower hinge - makes it easier.)

Can't open microwave door

It sounds like the push to open lever is cracked or broken. You have to remove the 'wrapper' to open the door manually from the inside to check the 'door keys' or door hooks to make sure that they are in tact. Then, check the door opening lever between the 'push to open button' and the lower door key.

Door Key Broke on Microwave Door

To replace the inner part of the latch is actually quite easy. Remove the glass tray from inside, then unplug the unit. Take to a flat surface and stand on edge so that the door will open flat. On the inside is a plastic trim that is just clipped on. Pop this off carefully and you will now see the assembly you need to replace. Note where the spring is anchored to the door before taking it apart. Put a small amount of lubricant on the guide pins of the new catch (petroleum jelly works great).

Remove a door on a microwave

I wouldn't remove the door myself if I were you. If you just got the microwave, it should be under a return/replace policy, or a warranty. I would recommend returning the microwave and getting a sturdier one, as you don't know if the problem exists for all microwaves in that series, and most stores don't allow the replacement to be return/replaced.

Removing the microwave door

In many cases, microwave door panels are held together by hidden hooks or catches that ave to be separated by a thin, strong tool such as a putty knife. I've attached a photo that should serve as a good example.
