Hello,

Your drive can be showing 0GB for a few reasons, if it is showing 0GB in BIOS, in Device manager or in any hard drive utility chances are the PCB is shot or one of the heads has stopped reading. In either case you will need the help of a data recovery expert if you wish to retrieve your data. If it's showing 0GB in My Computer but shows as 160GB(~155) in a harddrive utility or under device manager you simply require a software solution. If you require a recommendation for the professional recovery route simply reply back letting me know and telling me what country and state/province you live in, I can get you in touch with an appropriate service. If you simply need a software solution reply back with the drives original OS, your current computers OS and I can recommend a software package that will allow you to recover your own data.

I Can fin my external hard drive. When my laptop found the hard drive and I going into properties and it said has 0GB. Why? what is the problem? Also when I connect the External hard drive It make sound.

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files.
For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge guarantee".

I the HDD is still brand new, then it has to be formatted by the PC, install the HDD do the following...

1. Right Click My Computer, click on Manage
2. Go to Disk Manager on the left
3. Your disk should be listed there, right click on it on the right hand side of the screen, create partition, then you need to format the hdd, then you can use the disk, If it doesn't detect the HDD when you want to install windows, then you must, change your SATA setting in the Bios to IDE mode, Try it out and let me know, got some more solutions that you can try if that doesn't work

Maxtor Falcon 0 GB instead of 250

The drive may be already faulty, like having bad sectors on it. You might make it work if you will try the low level format under DOS.

Iomega Storcenter changed RAID after restart now reads 0gb used of 0gb available

Hmm... you could try removing the drives from the NAS device and plug them into either a SATA or EIDE cable in your PC. That way you can at least try to get your data off. If they were truly set for mirroring, then both drives should have the same data... so if one doesn't work, try the other. It may be a failed drive has the backend loop hung up.
