Most of the HEPA air filters which require washing lose their efficiency with each wash leaving you with the only viable option of replacing it with a new filter. In few cases the filter fibers needn't be washed and has extended filter life. Like in the case of a Clair e2f filter which needs to be cleaned using just a vacuum cleaner once a month and lasts for a minimum of 12 months even on 24/7 continuous use.

Honestly washing a HEPA filter is not very effective, you cannot get all the microscopic particles out. If you are at the point of having to wash your HEPA filter it may just be best to get a new filter. You can find filters for your machine, and there are many aftermarket alternatives that are cost effective.

Yes, you use these filters repeatedly by cleaning and maintaining it properly. If you are cleaning it for the first time then it is recommended that you must take the advice of an expert.

I have not seen washable Filter Queen vacuum or Defender unit filter. Looks like you may have K&N car intake filter pictured but this is very different by application and parameters from any in-home air filtration system

I own a HAP424G Air Purifier, and I need to know how to clean it. It has a large, flimsy filter, as well as 2 HEPA/Carbone filters. They've accumulated quite a lot of dust and I need to clean them, but I'm...

If the "flimsy filter you are talking about is a plastic or rubber foam you can clean with mild soap and warm water. Allow it to dry thoroughly before re-installing it. The HEPA filters are disposable items not meant to be cleaned. They are designed to be replaced and they sell filters on their website. In a pinch you could knock or tap in on a counter to knock out the loose debris and then using compressed air "like those sold in a can" can blow off more debris before reusing the filter. This is a temp fix and will reduce the efficiency of the filter and is not recommended unless you simply cannot get another filter.

I have been looking to buy an air purifier and people keep telling me to get a HEPA. What does this mean?

HEPA is a type of air purifier. It stands for high-efficiency particulate air. To qualify as a HEPA filter by government standards the filter must remove 99.7% of all particles larger than 0.3 micrometers from the air. The following site lists the top 10 HEPA purifiers available online - http://www.air-purifiers-america.com/AP101_top10.asp.

I need to send my Ecoquest Fresh Air Air Purifier to a repair shop. I need to find one near Mobile, AL. Can anybody help?

I would google one, Vollarra uses independent repair shops all over. You could call them too. Tennessee doesn't do much actual "repair" nowadays.

We have an alpine air purifier and the plate needs to be cleaned- should it be soaked in ammonia and reused?

Take a 1 part ammonia and 1 part water solution and an old toothbrush and dip the brush in the ammonia solution and scrub the metal grid on the plate to remove the deposits. Do both sides and then rinse with water and allow it to completely dry before reinstalling. Hope this helps.

How do I clean the Oreck Air 7

Hi There,

Here's how you can clean the machine, and I have copied the link to the owners manual below for your convenience.

Cleaning
The Cabinet
You can clean the air purifier cabinet with mild, non-abrasive cleanser and a
soft cloth. IMPORTANT: Unplug the unit from its electrical power source.
Do not spray cleansers or furniture polish into the louver or grill areas.

Collector Cell
Indicator light is green under normal operation and flashes red
when the cell requires cleaning. To clean, proceed as follows:
The red "WASH CELL" light will flash or illuminate when it is
time to clean your cell. However, it is recommended that every four to
eight weeks or if snapping sounds become frequent, clean your
electronic air purifier. Your electronic air purifier is still filtering the air
when the red light illuminates. Cleaning your electronic air purifier is a
snap too... and a must for efficient operation.
1. Turn the unit off and unplug it from the electric power source. If wall
mounted, remove unit from wall.
2. Remove front grill by unscrewing the retainer screw under the grill on
the cabinet bottom. (fig. 1)

3. Pull the cell out of the cabinet by using the two small handles on the
front of the cell. (fig. 2)

4. Snap off the charcoal odor absorber from the back of the cell. Change
as necessary for continued odor removal. (fig. 3)
5. Slide off pre-filter. This can be cleaned with the cell and reused. (fig. 4)
NOTE: Handle the electronic cell with care. Damaged metal plates
and/or broken wires will cause the air purifier to malfunction. (Do
not wash charcoal odor absorber; it is disposable.)
Cleaning with Assail-A-Cell® Cell Cleaner:
6. Using Assail-A-Cell® Cleaner, thoroughly saturate the cell and prefilter.
Be sure to spray between each cell plate and cover every
surface. Allow product to soak for a few minutes, not allowing it to dry.
Rinse thoroughly with water. For extremely heavy deposits, repeat the
process.
IMPORTANT: Dry the collection cell thoroughly outside of the
air purifier before reinstalling it into the air purifier. Ensure
that all areas including corners and areas that may trap
water are dry before reinstalling into the air purifier. DO NOT
place a wet or damp collection cell in the air purifiereff1848.jpg

Hunter 730 carbon pre-filter replacement orange light

Filter lights on your Air Purifier http://www.fastbrowser.net/netpicker/Filter-lights-on-your-Airifie.htm One of the best things about your IQAir Air Purifier is that it has warning lights to tell you when to change the prefilter, gas or hepa filters. Of course how long they last depends on your pattern of usage. For the initial 80% of the filter life the control panel will display a green light next to the corresponding filter on the outline of the unit. When the orange light goes on it does not mean that the filter needs to be replaced immediately but that there is 20% of useful life left. IQAir gives you plenty of time and the machine will tell you how many hours you have left. Once the number of hours gets to within a few hours remaining the orange light will then change to red. It is at this time you should change the filter. If you forget to change it and there are no hours left the hours will go into the negative displaying how many hours you have gone over and the red light will change to a flashing red light.

Just in case you have lost the manual like one of our customers, this is how you reset the filter lights:
1. Press the menu button ( 7 times) until you get to where the display says new filter.
2. Press the enter button and hold it down for 3 seconds and a number 1 will be flashing after the words new filter on the display. This flashing number is so you can enter which filter you have changed. Filter number 1 is the pre-filter, filter number 2 is the V-5 gas filter, and filter number 3 is the Hepa filter.
3. You change the number for the filter by pressing the up arrow button.
4. Once you reach the correct filter number you press the enter button and the control panel will display a question mark after the words new filter on the display. Below this it will say, E = Yes M = Cancel. If you wish to cancel the entry so it does not reset a new filter life, simply press the Menu button.
5. If you want it to reset the filter life for the changed filter, simply press the Enter button. Once this is done, the filter light will change back to the green light, which will show the filter has been changed. If you go to the remaining filter life on the control panel for the filter number you just changed, you will now see the remaining life of the filter in hours has been reset.
