Hello,

Please remove any and all USB devices, DVD/CD's, floppy disks from the PC then power it off completely and try to boot again. If it boots properly it simply means one of those devices is set to be bootable but isn't set up to boot your computer. To identify replace one at a time and reboot until the problem returns. Should removing all of them fail, chances are your windows drive has failed and needs to be replaced and re-installed with windows. Dell's generally arrive with a set of DVD's that can be used to set up a new drive, this will get you running again but you will need professional help if there was anything on the original drive that requires recovery.

SOURCE: error message: unmountable boot volumn

Yes you can save your computer. But if you are running Windows XP, you need the Windows XP CD. Boot with that CD and at the first prompt, press "r" to get to the repair option.
Press 1 to choose your windows instalaltion and then at the prompt, type the following

chkdsk /r

this might take some time but at the end, type the work exit and you should be back in business.

UNMOUNTABLE DISK VOLUME Message on ACER Aspire One.

Unmountable boot volume is most likely an indication of a failing hard drive. Boot to your Windows CD and run CHKDSK /R and see if issue resolves. If it doesn't then you are probably replacing the hard drive.

HOW CAN I FIX MY COMPUTER? ITS READING UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME?

You need your Windows XP cd for this fix.

Boot from the Windows XP CD and at the first prompt, press "r" for repair. Press 1 when asked to choose windows installation and then enter the admnistrator password. If you don;t have one, just press "enter" and it should show you "c:\windows>"

At this prompt, type the following

chkdsk /r

THis should take quite sometime but will fix the problem at the end. when you get the c:\windows prompt again, type the word "exit" and your system will reboot and load windows XP normally

Blue screen during booting

Yes, unmountable boot volume usually means you need a new hard drive. However, if you have a windows xp cd, you can boot to the recovery console (press R at the first prompt) and try running a chkdsk /f command. Sometimes that will help. Thanks and good luck! Oh and if you could remember to give this solution a rating of fixya. Thanks!
