My CD Driver went MIA

update BIOS, reset BIOS to default setings, enroll with Windows recovery point to earler drivers version, replace CD/DVD drive

first of all try this drive on other PC to know if it working or dead

What's the PC/laptop model? Try installing the latest drivers from HP website.

1-it is probable that there might be a virus infection!
2-or ther might be physical damages to your cd drive

3-try reinstalling your operating system.

just install DriverMax software and check for updates, it will automatically download and install the updated version of all drivers.

would suggest, personally, to download that driver [File Version: 6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101.2205) file, and use that file to overwrite the driver on your system, seeing as my drive functions. The file source can be located at: C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/cdrom.sys

That is what I'm showing as the latest driver at the moment. Hopefully that will be of some help.

Try to uninstall your optical drive on device manager and restart your system.
->if that doesn't work try a firmware update.
->if that still doesn't work,replace optical drive.
