Peavey PV215 Speakers

Dear Sirs:

I own (2) Peavey PV215 speakers.

While DJ-ing last night, a light bulb was coming on & off inside the speakers during certain periods.

I was barely driveing the speakers, probably at 1/4 of their capacity.

I don't believe this is normal.

Please advise

You have likely almost but not totally fried a voice coil in your speaker. Most speakers get cooked from underpowering, not from being overdriven. What are the speakers rated for and what are you driving them with?

Peavey PR15-D Powered speakers, Power on but no sound.

Check for impedance ( resistance) in ohms on the speakers disconnected from the circuit using a volt/ohm meter. I think the woofers are 8 ohms and the tweeters are 8 ohms. Also check for bad solder joints where the jacks are soldered to the circuit boards.

PV 2600, couple years old, light usage. Connected to two PV SP3K speakers. One channel started to cutout somewhat but not all the way, Switched a few input cables, swapped L&R. Then whole amp shutdown....

Hi..

I've worked on similar units.
Things I'd check first :
Dust in the unit.
Weak solder connections /crusty debris stuff on the input jacks or output terminals
Any flex cables soldered in tend to be a problem on peavey amps I resolder all those contacts.
Checking the amp w/o a load IS NOT a good suggestion.
What style output connections are you using?
1/4 inch, binding post, or Neutrik style?

Peavey SP5

depends who assembled the speakers as to wheather or not there is any fuse proetection installed.
The drivers are probably gone from the highs because of overloading power surge on the same circuit as the cash register,
or
the crossover is failed.

Cheap fix is replace crossover
expensive fix replace cones of speaker

Best long term protection is to split up the power loading on the stage and surge/spike guard power boards for staging equipment & have resettable fuses installed at the crossobvers or the respective speaker connections.
